    Yep.....

I couldn't agree more Rick, but I don't know how much time it would be to police them. :Do No: :(

Dan, I think it's going to take 10x the effort by the mods under the new format. I've had quite a few ads on here over the years, and I can't tell you how many times I've edited them for clarity, or added pictures by request, or dropped the price..etc..etc...
Under the new layout, I'd have to contact a mod for every addition to the ad. And I'd even have to contact a mod to ad "sold" into the ad after the item has sold now. Seems like the mods will be working lots of OT now.

Jim, I hope you don't take any offence to my comments. I understand why you came to this, and I also respect the fact that this is your site and you can do what you wish. I just have to give my two cents.
    :TU:

Look at this recent ad. Yes, we bent the old rules a little, but absolutely no harm was done, and things went great.

I think it should be left to the mods to delete the content of posts that are out of line.

Also....the posts could be held by the moderator and then the ones that are
accepted would be posted the same time each day so every one has the same chance to get the part. Now the seller can play games with who is the
first reply or have some guy offer above the stated price off board and screw the guy who had the first reply....there seems to be a few of us that have
    unlimited funds. Peace WildBill

All sellers are able to reply and update their own threads, FYI.

This is a big change in format, and it's a VERY tough decision to make. Please try to work with it and adjust. We've been having an increasing amount of issues with people tearing each other apart.

Sorry, I somehow missed that when I read Jim's post.
I guess if the seller can still update his/her own ad, then it really won't make much extra work for the mods. After re-reading JW's ad.... how in the heck did I miss that??!? :Dou: Sorry.

I still think it's a bummer that we've come to this point, but it's not as bad as I first thought.

Adam, what I ask is that you don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. I buy stuff a lot on the site, and am unhappy that this makes it harder to do for no real benefit.... It seems more like making sellers feel better so as not to get trashed for overplaying a car or a part.

Still hope you guys will reconsider all this ban on open communications within sales ads (which are free commissions) so we can get back to open buying or selling.

What we need is a V8 legal system. A V8 prosecutor and lawyer. But we cannot be limitedwe also need the supreme court of the V8 board (at least 5 members, one each from different ethnic backgrounds).
Seriously, I do not like the idea either, but give it a chance first and see how the new system works. If it does not, it will change. Just let me know before the change so I can register under a new ID and flame my own car first. This gives me the ability to delete it.

    Jim's New Rules

Hold on guys, Jim said its ok to do another post on a item. I looked this over and can say its not a bad thing, a least on this board. The only thing you need to do if you see something that you know for a FACT is wrong with a listing is to post it on the "Bench" where we all can read it. I did see what Jim was talking about first hand at the Carlise car show and told the guys, our club is not really into downing Buicks. I hope we can make positive out of this because we have a great car club and can say I proud to part of, AL :TU:

Here again the few sets the rules for the majority. [not directed at Jim, just the people that cannot follow the rules]

If you are not in a possition to actually buy the car or part in question no comments should be made.
If you see something misrepresented pm the sellar to clear it up before runnig your mouth. You just might be the one with your foot in your mouth.

I don't like this new policy but it is Jim's playground and if you do not follow his rules then take your toys and go play somewhere else.

    Guys,

I am not chistleing these new rules in stone. We are going to go this way for a while, and see how it goes. Maybe I am wrong, and it won't help bring back the "good parts" and cars to the board here, but the only way we will find that out is to try it. And if I am wrong, I will be the first to admit it.

Let's give this till mid-winter, and then take a look at how it's working.

I have noted the concerns expressed here, and thank you for your support, even if you don't agree with the change.

If you have massive problems buying or selling something, that can be directly related to this new policy, then make sure you let me know.

    Thanks

I'm not fond of this new rule change and the reasons why are simple. there was a recent posting in the parts for sale forum regarding an 11 second Q-jet. one fellow spoke up first about it and it was considered his. another fellow had also expressed interest in it and the first person saw that and graciously offered to let him have the option of buying instead because he didnt really need it at the time. I have seen this demonstrated many times on this board and feel that if no posting is allowed then this type of thing won't happen. you cant step aside and let a person who needs the part more than you have the option if you arent even aware that somebody else needed it. i seriously doubt that this kind of thing happens on the other boards.

when a 68 steering column was listed in parts section, somebody was nice enough to post that the same column in fact also fits 67 cars. i believe the buyer actually bought it for his 67 GS rather than the 68 application it was listed for.

another issue is with listing the part correctly. say for example a part is listed as a 69 buick GS grill. somebody not very knowledgable submits first and buys it, only to find out after he gets it that it's actually a skylark grill or even a 68 grill. now since nobody was allowed to reply with a polite correction the buyer never gets this info. granted most of our sellers would do the right thing and inform the buyer of the new info once he finds out, but what about that small percentage that dont care? what we have then is ebay but with fixed prices instead of bidding.

Just my personal opinion and nothing more. on the other hand great group of people and glad to be accepted here.

Question: How do potential buyers tell if they responded FIRST to an item?? Sellers are to be on the 'Honor System'?
(I really DID try to read and understand this whole thread, but I have other things to do today so please don't tear me up if I missed this part..)

    My opinion-
Please JW, put it back the way it was! Don't make this change just for the sake of "order". IMO, YOU ALREADY HAD THE VERY BEST WEB-SITE, BUICK OR OTHERWISE! :TU:

If someone just cannot follow V8's Family-orientated, common-sense rules, very simple.. SUSPEND (or BAN) THEM! :Smarty:

  16. i for one say.
    nice job.
this gives freedom of speech but not at the person.
and if he wishes he can join in the created thread and voice himself that way if he wishes.
    but the
FOR SALE add stays left alone.
a past reply to this is right.
and i have taken things that way as well.
300 hits on my thread and one request for a better pic.
guess its high and i will never try and get one of those out again at that price type of thing.
or, i paid to much for this and have to take a lose i guess if i want to get rid of it.
it is that simple for me.
if the seller realy does not want to hang on to it and get it out to the public
the price will go dow/ lose or not.
    my 2 cents

Yes, this is the biggest problem I have with the new system. In the past, most seller's sold to the first person who replied, but not all of them did that, which cause a whole other kind of fun.. :spank:

We can go back to the old system, which is the easiest on the mods.. with the following conditions.

    • The only responses allowed will be those which relate directly to the transaction.
    • Any response, which the moderators deem to be other than straightforward buying-selling questions, will be deleted immediately.
    • And, the user who posted the deleted response, will be removed from the board, permanently. No appeal process, no gray area, no warnings. Your gone-- for good. The decision to remove the post will be up to the individual moderators. I will not overrule a moderator. So if one of them does not like you, and a post can be seen in the "gray area", they can chose to remove you and the post, at their discretion.

Is this what you guys want?

I will post a poll, and let the membership at large decide this issue. We cannot moderate every post before it goes on the board. This is technically possible with the system, but practically impossible.

    Jim,
Regardless of the outcome I still think this is one heck of a site and I'm sure no matter what is decided folks will adapt. However, I've read about other problems
besides questionable commentary that have reared their ugly heads in regards to buying/selling here. I suggested some time ago that some thought be given to a rule that would prohibit minors from transacting on V8. Thoughts?

I understand you concern, but how exactly could we enforce a policy against minors?
