Is the new Iron Block going to require a Main Girdle and/or new Main Bearing Caps at the SAME power level as the stock blocks (roughly 550-750 horsys)?

Or will this be raised to a NEW higher power level (say like 850-1000)??:Do No:

I hope the new Blocks(iron & aluminum) are being re-engineered to do away with all the present crutches we now use.

I beleive the block is being designed to handle at least 1500hp with no girdle. Jim B could best answer the question as he is the man with the plan

The new iron block has been desighned to have thicker main webs and will come with a 4 bolt billit main cap already installed. you should need no extra girdles or caps to be added. And from what I know 1500 will be a little on the light side of what it can handle.

It was supposed to be released in May (one month ago). From what I understand, it's pretty close. It's far from a pipe dream.

    Chris,

I haven't seen it. The only pic I have seen is the bare un-machined block that someone took at the NATS. Email Jim B. He may have some photos he could send or post. He could at least answer your question of when it will be finished. Sorry I can't help anymore.

That was a resin prototype.. nothing in iron..

I'm sure it will get done in due time... but always had trouble with the timeline prescribed back last fall.

The people doing the block have some great experience and seem to be motivated and on the cutting edge of or "Off-Brands".

I HAVE seen their new Cadillac products and quality is second to none.

I can't wait.....I've said it before,I knew my car had a parachute for a reason.

Anyone interested in an 800+/- horse 505?
I won't be risking my car w/ these stock blocks anymore,I'm happy to say.

 If you have ever done anything like this , the first rule is you will not meet your estimated time frame. The only way you can guaranty to make your dealine is do everything "in house" , which is not possible in this case. I know for one, I would rather have a project run over a few months and be done right, than to hurry it and take a short cut to make the deadline. I have seen guys do this with some really bad looking results.
This is one hell of an undertaking...... Jim Burek deserves kudos for this.

I TOTALLY AGREE!! :Dou: I think that I can comprehend what a MONUMENTAL TASK this block project is. I'm not really in a hurry (YET!) But it would be REALLY nice to hear some details, or see some photos posted. Something to chew on for now... instead of little/no details. In this case, ANY NEWS is better than NO NEWS! Even problems. I guess I'm just jealous and wish I could be involved!:stmad:

Here is a paste from the PAE Web Site ...

I believe that this block will be capable of being built to just shy of 600 cubic inches.

4.6 inch bore & 3.90 stroke:grin: just what the horsepower Dr. ordered! Cubic inches without the long stroke.

    GSXMEN Got Jesus?

I think a 572"(4.500" bore and stroke) would be a nice way to start....may as well leave plenty of "cushion" for future bore jobs - not to mention, more strength!!!

It's a good time to be a Buick 'nut'!!! :TU:

Yes, the Bulldog Performance Iron block will be a nice alternative, for those who want to stick with iron.
