Of those passing judgement, how many have actually driven, or even ridden in one? It's only a few ticks slower the the revered F-bodies, but much more comfortable and a better built car. Most F-bodies I've been in were rattletraps. Wait til the aftermarket catches up. As it sits, it will beat any old GTO, showroom stock for showroom stock. So it doesn't look like a 65 Goat........neither does a 70 Judge. Park these 2 cars side by side and show me the similarities in apperance. Of course it's not going to look like an old GTO. They've only been out of production for 30 years. I have been fortunate enough to have driven both cars, and as great as the older GTOs are, the new car is an absolute blast to drive. It handles well and is very comfortable. You can flog it and not be worried about breaking an irreplaceable part. It boils down to this, GM has done the same thing it did 40 years ago. They've taken an otherwise basic 2 door coupe(Monaro/Lemans) and stuffed in a healthy V8, added a few other sporting goodies and turned it loose on the public. Here's your GTO. Drive one and try not to giggle like 16 year old kid while you do it............:3gears:
I like the car but hate the use of the name. I do not think anyone is debating that it has power and class. Its just named wrong. Oh and the Shelby cobra don't count. Its a Ford for god sakes hehehehehe
Is there really any american muscle cars being made....h*ll no, not like the old ones. Muscle car era is way over and been over for a long time, geesh, where has everyone been? Only things that's keepin the muscle cars alive are us people who's in the hobby, for that matter the only people keeping the old car hobby alive is us. I don't suppose people who owned chevelles will like the new one as it don't really represent one, power is good and stuff. I love the chevelle way better than the "goat". If I was going to buy a new GM car it would be a chevy corvette or a new chevelle if they come out with it(they will). :TU:
Buick has been sticking the GS badge on just about everything it has built the last 15 years and nobody is complaining about that! All FWD V6 stuff at that. Get with it people, GTO is just a name. It's completely unrealistic to expect a car built in 2004 to have anything in common with a car built 40 years ago.:blast:
The 2005 MUSTANG !!! ... now that's the "Excitement" that Pontiac should have created. The GTO is boring. I don't care how fast it is or how good it handles... It's just plain BORING and doesn't stand out in a crowd like the old GTO's did. The new Mustang is a winner and will surely out sell the GTO ten to one.
2000 Firebird in black with the 6 speed was as muscle as it gets. That sucker screamed speed at a stand still. People would red light just so they didn't have to race it, it looked so mean.
Instead of taking a foreign car and putting an American name on it. You know what they should have done? Taken an American car and put a foreign name on it, maybe something like "Grand Turismo Omologato".hmmmm Dave P.S. mine looks just like the one Skitzo posted. Sure I would have loved hood scoops. I can live with the single outlet exhuast.
Don't like it - as a GTO. Looks like a Grand Prix, Plymouth Breeze, etc. Its kind of sharp, but not as a GTO, IMO. Actually, looks like a late model Grand Prix.... which I feel brings nothing from the original either.
supposedly, next year they are planning on some scoops and maybe some ground effects to make it look meaner. I saw some pictures a few days ago with some aftermarket scoops and it definitely looked good. It was lowered and had some graphics that broke up the plain jane look of it. I've only seen one on the road, and I live close to Pontiac, MI!! We didn't know what it was, as the guy took all of the emblems and decals off and it was just another mid sized car to us. That was until he smoked the tires next to us at the red light. It may be clean looking and doesn't scream that it has anything under the hood, I can tell you, it surely does!! He left me in my Lumina, sitting in a cloud of burned rubber smoke.(As it should be with me in my "Grandpa" car) :3gears: It launched very nicely, the rear end squatted a bit, but hooked up really well, and he was gone. I raced up to the next light to try and see what kind of car it was, then I realized it was new GTO. Someone on the board had some videos of a couple racing with some aftermarket goodies. One had a 100HP nitrous system, and it looks great when it runs.
haha...if thats so, what do you think us skylark people think about the GS's or GSX's? ou: BTW gotta love BBB! :beer i like the new gto car for what it is, but i dont like new cars being marketed with old car names. seems like they are trying to cash in on a concrete reputation. on another note, i saw the new chevelle on tv...LOVE IT!!
