    skitzofrenic66 What's an Import?

I've just started to see those new GTO's hit the road and I've gotta say i hate the way they have drug the GTO name through the mud. I like the car itself just why call it a GTO? Nothing about it resembles anything classic.

    I like it.....

I work at a GM dealer, and I cant figure out what there isnt to like. (based on todays price market). It can stand improvement, but outta the box I think it has ALOT of upside. Add some cosmetic items, tweek design in rear end (body-wise), add the ram air hood and I think its a hit. Alot of upside Im saying. Motor is proven. BIG TIME. Large market for upgrades for the engine. Rear end needs to be refined, but again, ALOT of upside to being a independent suspension. Last model of F-body NEVER had the rearend figured out. Lot of problems with them. (ring, pinion or pinion seal, take your pick) Price wise, 33k....yeah, chunk of change, but on the same lot, 45 grand Yukons....Not the Denali, just the Yukon. Add 10 grand if the want the Denali. 55-60 Grand.....gesh. Fords approach has always been to sell more for less, and GM less units for more. Been that way for a while, so comparing to a Mustangs price....well....it appears its will continue to be this way if they keep following the same pattern as they have.

SSR or SS Chev....or GTO Hummm, I will take the GTO and the 8-10 grand extra to play with.....

hate the fact it's called a GTO, with what GTO's meant in the past (currently too, I suppose)
First of all, it's based on an AUSSIE car (is it even made here?), secondly it's nothing like a GTO of the past, it's only connection is it's fast. And the grill, I suppose is "reminiscent" of a Judge-type grill.
At least do something that makes it look like a GTO!

Otherwise it seems like a nice car that's probably pretty fun to drive.

and this represents a GSX of the past?

    Name play recognition.
BTW. I do like the car in the picture, just stating a point.

It is a fast car with style but the biggest problem most people have is the name. If they stopped calling it the GTO. Sales would double.

It is just a re badged Ausi car in reality. That seams to be the biggest problem. Nothing about the car came from the original GTO except the name.

    Big mistake for GM.

I agree. When I first heard announcements of a new GTO in the works, to be based off the Holden Monaro, I figured it'd be like the XLR is based off the Corvette. A very short time later, maybe a month or so, I heard it was finished. I thought to myself, "that was quick." When I saw the pics it was clear that they'd simply put on a pontiac front fascia, and some GTO emblems, and the new GTO had arrived. :Dou:

That's how alot of "great" cars start out though, come on people! What do you think the lemans people think about the gto??

Granted, you do have a point. I suppose we just had higher expectations on the styling aspect.

Yes, but the LeMans was a good looking car and fairly distinctive. I think the recipe for "excitment" begins with ingredients that are all good to begin with. If one of the flavors is out of place, then the soup is sour.

Old gto came from the lemans (a luxury car right?), new gto came from the monaro (a performance car in aussie land for the past 30+ years).

Everyone that whines about the whole name thing should just hush and thank god it wasn't an option package on the vibe.

Could be that it was based on a non American car???

The Lemans was an American car to start with. They took a foreign car and slapped an American muscle label on it. Its just doesn't work.

Like the poor Nova that was really a Toyota and a crapy Toyota at that. As it did not run or last as long as the real Toyota version.

So what if it's not an "american" car to begin with? Not all "muscle cars" only come from america, it's still a high performance car. High hp+rwd=good stuff.

    And I'll quote myself:

Other kinds of cars can be considered muscle.

But the only real muscle cars are "American Muscle"

a lambo could be called a muscle cars but its not the baseball and apple pie kind.

Good old fashion American Muscle. Gas guzzling, 4000lbs pieces of iron n steel ripping up the streets.

I had to think about an answer for a bit but here it is.

How about we look at the shelby cobra. Many consider this to be one of the fastest "american muscle cars" around, however, the car isn't american, it's british with an american engine. Now let's look at the new gto, again, it's from australia, however, american engine

Let's take another look at this, from the "bean counter" side. They look at sales of the v8 rwd platform, see that they're almost nothing compared to the "hot" little fwd 4 banger that everyone and their mother seems to be buying. What do you think they'll do? Will we encourage them to keep spending millions of dollars to put out a v8 rwd car or will they just drop it since all the public does is nitpick everything that's "so different" and how "horrible" it is that they used an old name?

These cars need to sell well or we won't see another v8 rwd car for a long time and don't even think about them putting it across different divisions.

It weighs 3800 pounds and burns up the pavement. No it really doesn"t guzzle gas but everything has its bad side right. To bad it rides nice and handles good to. The leather interior and stereo system and air conditioning has to go to. QUIT ------- and moaning about and drive one. They have sold Porshe for years and there is nothing more ugly than those bath tubs. No i do not think the GTO is very sharp but it has every thing else going for it. Just my opinion. ED K
