Hey ya'll, been awhile since I've been on the board! Trying to get the old Buick road worthy for this summer. I need a few parts for my 61 leSabre drop top. Any suggestions on new or rebuilt parts would be helpful also.

    1) An OE style master cylinder, won't hold any pressure! Bore is pitted bad! For some strange reason I think I might be sucking in brake fluid through the vacuum hose. After sitting awhile the brake fluid reservoir is empty, and it blows smoke like GM top engine cleaner!!!!

    2) OE style battery hold down.

    3) OE Heater core hose bracket that mounts to pass side valve cover.

    Guess that's it for now:beers2:

You can send the master cylinder out to be sleeved as a worst case. I would try Car Quest etc for a rebuilt unit first.

Already tried Carquest, no luck! About 10 years ago, I got one from NAPA that was really for a 61 Impala. Just had the output port in a different location, but it only lasted a couple years. I've been running the original ever since.

What's the deal with the 61 LeSabre master cylinder? Was it a one-year only deal? I went to Rockauto.com and they list the MC35027 for a 1960 (W/PB) and the MC36115 for the 1962 LeSabre (W/PB), yet they don't have a listing for 1961.

They do list a couple for the 61 Impala though.

Heres the pile. Guy wants $40 for the master cylinder. I didn't see any sign of a battery hold down or any kind of thing on the valve cover. Car looks like its loaded with A/C and cruise! [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

I need a better description than "nice". Are you seeking ones that are unbroken? Unpitted??

WOW DAN!!! It's damn clean, and looks all there!!! I can't think of anything else I need. Guess I'll pass on the master, if I can't find a cleaner used one, or rebuilt, I'm better off just getting mine re-sleaved.

    Thanks for checking!!!

I am surprised that NAPA can't help. I had the master for my '64 Plymouth rebuilt through them. They sent it to a rebuilder in PA, I think. About $110.00, IIRC.
