How much does it take to get one of those systems to your door sans mufflers. I have a GSCA exhaust system I never installed that I may put up for sale. You number will help me to come up with a price.

    Jason,

Do you have an idea what the tailpipe and front pipe diameters are?

It was factory- 2 1/4" head pipes and 2" tails. Both tails are even too!

TPP charged me $85 total to ship. One large box for the pipes and the mufflers were shipped separately

I did the same thing with a '71 GS455 named Nellie. Fun stuff Jason. BTW if you need tailpipes again local parts stores and muffler shops will order and install Walker 2 1/4 inch tailpipes for a 1969 SS396. Looks like p/n 45366 for the right and 45365 for the left. I've used them before and they fit well. I thought you were looking for a 2 1/2 system.

Edit: please see reply 11, it's been nearly a decade so my information maybe off compared to Steve's experience.

I don't want to hijack this thread but thought the audience would be appropriate.
Years ago I bought a 3" Exhaust from Keith at Torque Tech and the system fit great on my 71 GS 455. It looked good even after 11 years when I sold the car. I now have a 67 GS400. It seems to me that the 67's are longer after the axle.... Does anyone have or know how these 3" kits fit in the longer 66-67 cars? I may consider the TA system.
    Thank you,

Would some of the chrome turndown tips work for extensions for the "generic" kits? Also, do the downpipe kits fit a '64 Skylark with 350 and stock manifolds?

The Pypes kits read to be pretty good from various vendors, but I haven't heard from anybody personally.

I was considering the Flowmaster pipe kits because of the turndown tailpipes they offer, but don't really want their mufflers.

Anybody used T/A kits on '64 Skylark that could share their experience? Or any of the other brands? Gardner is out of reach.

    Thanks!

Ta has down pipes for 350 2.5 inch I have them nice fit. Not sure if anyone else makes them Magna flow fit is good tailpipe is 3 pieces so you can get the length you need on early cars

Thanks Andy! Do you have T/A complete exhaust or just the down pipes? I didn't check Magna Flow, but I will take a look. I think Flowmaster is 3 piece tailpipes too.

    alec296 i need another buick

I have a full magnaflo system and ta down pipes to connect to manifolds. The 3 inch is nice but overkill for the 350 unless your up over 450 hp

    Bigpig455 Fastest of the slow....

I used the Pypes kits on my 65 and 73 - had to weld both up because the flange design leaks when you try to clamp it. The price was right, but you get what you pay for....I aslo used the Pypes tailpipe extensions on both.. not exactly correct but I like them

Trusty wagon has "pypes" (Re: Need a mail order exhaust system that actually fits)

Dear Michael, Andy, Rhett, and V-8 Buick exhaust "plumbers."

My trusty 1965 Buick Special wagon and her 445 cid big block has a Pypes SGA10 system:

    http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pye-sga10/overview/year/1965/make/buick/model/special

I went with Dynomax Super Turbo Mufflers - 17749:

I had a muffler shop put the setup together and it was necessary to make a few additional bends since this system isn't intended for a wagon. I didn't hear about any nasty issues in making it fit and I've had no problems since installation. I do have photos of it turned out. Here is the back end of the installation:

Here is the detail on how the exhaust was routed on the passenger side around the spare tire well:

Here is how the mufflers got installed:

    Here is the "X" crossover:

Finally here is the view of the exhaust system from the front of the car:

I don't have a lot of time or miles on the car, but so far no complaints.

    Cheers, Edouard

Gibson exhaust tips (Re: Exhaust system that actually fits)

Dear Ken and V-8 Buick exhaust system "plumbers,"

Thanks glad you liked it! :)

I should have mentioned which exhaust tips I used, but I wasn't sure if that was something that was wagon specific or not. Anyway they are Gibson tips #500383:

    http://www.summitracing.com/parts/gib-500383/overview/

I just really liked the way those tips looked and decided from the catalog photo to go with them. I'm very happy I did!

    Cheers, Edouard

Thanks Rhett. Nice looking '65! The tailpipe exits look good to me. Do you mean you welded the joints? I was planning to have them welded anyway. Did you use downpipes or headers?

Dear Michael and V-8 Buick "longroof" fans,

Thanks! Glad you found the information useful.

It is so nice to be finally into the shakedown phase of the project. Still have a few rough edges to straighten out, but it is a real pleasure to finally have my trusty wagon on the road once more! :)

    Cheers, Edouard
