    Hello,
I builded a stainless steel exhaust for my stock nailhead 401 on my original Buick Electra 225 Year 1960. No I am behind the rear axle and need to put mufflers on the exhaust, because I want to drive on the street with a nice but not so loud nailhead sound. There are a million different ones and every commercial says that their product is the best.
They should be made of stainless steel, so I can weld them in. Also they should be kind of slim, because there is not too much space to weld them in.

Who can tell me a good choice?

    Thanks - Herby

Herby, are you running dual exhaust? I'm assuming the area you have to work with is the space under the gas tank, where the factory muffler was located?

Yes / dual exhaust. But I made them straight from the front and then on each side over the rear axle. So I need one on each side.
    Thanks for asking!

I'd use a Dynomax Ultra Flo X muffler. It's got dual inlets, dual outlets, and a built in x-pipe.

He's not running a transverse muffler.

that is right / I do not need that Dynomax Ultra Flo X muffler - I need two seperate mufflers under the trunk , behind the backwheels.
Any other options ? What is a good brand for stainless steel mufflers?

Bullet's might be a little loud for what he is looking for - the Dynomax Ultra Flo comes in a 6in round case, might work for what your doing.

I'd definitely add an H or X pipe too, preferably an X pipe.

Dose the intake manifold exhaust crossover count as an X or H pipe?

    No.
Its refferred to as a Y pipe and does not accomplish the same thing as an X or H pipe.

Are you referring to the actual exhaust heat passages in the intake, or as William mentioned the y pipe?

In either case, no, that would not be the same as running an h or x pipe.

I have always been fond of glass packs. Thrush makes them in stainless. If you want a more traditional muffler, Flowmaster 40 series or Super 44 series 409S are also stainless.

I was referring to the actual exhaust heat passages in the intake --- I was thinking that since they cross the top of the engine, they may balance the exhaust flow right at the source. Just a guess, since i don't have a H pipe installed in my true dual system, my next best reasoning for not having done it. Just curious if that made any sense or not...... how much of a difference does the H pipe really make?

    Where do you install a h-pipe or x-pipe on a x-chassis????

The only place is between the engine and trans or after the rear axle??

Was '59 the last year for the perimeter frame?

That's why I initially suggested the Dynomax X.
