    Mike,
Hope you can make Englishtown, it's a great event. Get yourself some MT Drag Radials in the 275/50-15 size(26" tall). The 275/60's will reduce your gear ratio because they are 28" tall. Don't even try launching that car with street radials, you'll be very frustrated. Last year with 3.42 gears and the 275/50's, I didn't even break 5000 RPM going through the traps at almost 107 MPH, although my switch pitch converter has a good low stall.

Larry thanks for the info. Sounds like going with he 275/50 is a better choice. I have been looking for a nice set of Welds to mount some track tires on since I will be running 275/50-15 BFG's on the street with my Buick rims. I hope to have it done and get it on the track but if not I will still be there. I already blocked off the day to attend looking forward to it. even bringing my Pontiac loving brother-in-law to show him some Fast-With-Class.

    WOW that's cheap! :TU:

I agree on the 275/50's, 60's are too tall unless you're running a 3.73-4.1x gear. I'm guessing you'll break 12s first time out, and with some fudging around I'll bet you can get low low 12s out of it with cool air and a prepped track.

...God, I loves me a fresh motor :Brow:

Well still not in but i thought I'd show some progress. Got the old GS400 motor out that is hurt and notice in the background of the new 448 hp 523tq street terror! Its killing me not having it running yet since we were supposed to work on it all day last sunday but family "stuff" keeps coming up. Thats what happens when you have 4 kids.
Well hopfully over next 2weeks hear i can clean up detail and get it running for Engilshtown:pray:
    Stay tuned.

Mike - dont rush it for E-town. You want everything to be checked out good and well before you hit the track. We're lucky if we get 2 or 3 runs before eliminations anyway (but if your lucky or good you can go lots of rounds). The REAL time to come out and play is Friday (or sat) at the Cecil county meet - you can hotlap your car FOREVER and come home with your pockets stuffed full of timeslips plus it'll give you a few more weeks to whip'er into shape

DO come on out and meet everyone though ... the Englishtown meet was my first introduction to the whole BUICK crew back in '93. I showed up for the car show not knowing anyone - someone stuck their helmut under my arm, took me over to tech and said "You're gonna RACE your car !! Now, GO get a timeslip !!"

Well, my wife descided to go and have out 4th child a little early(the nerve of her) just as we planned to drop in the fresh 455 so things have taken longer. Mom and my new little daughter are great though.
I have had time to really detail the engine bay nicely with some elbow grease tape and paint. came out betther than I thought for my first time doing this. We are looking to get the motor and new trq converter all matched up and in tomorrow and i will post some more pics and let ya know how it went. Hopefully will be able to clean up the garage as well since there are bolts and parts everywhere. wish me luck!

Alright well its bolted in was a little struggle with one mount not too bad but UUGGGG... We are going to have jack the car way up and unbolt the trans from it again cause the new stall converter seems angled alittle bit and won't spin freely:Dou: So we think its best to get car up, unbolt trans from motor lines etc get the convereter situated and also I have to put on a new flywheel on the motor since the one on there only has the one set of bolt holes and they don't match up with the converter I have now:Dou: :Dou: That will teach me to check next time. The motor bolted real easy to trans once we got it down on mounts and jacked up the trans from under the car alittle. Maybe we came in at a weird angle and this cocked the converter slightly???? Its definitly not spinning so that is not good.
Any help or suggestions from you guys is greatly appreciated.
All this plus the Eagles lost today as I was listening on the radio:Dou: :Dou: :Dou: I am having a few cold ones and regrouping
Some pics below. It does look real nice in there now that I am happy about.

The converter isn't seated. It's happened more than once to me. You get it seated, and shift the trans a little, and it pops out. Best thing is to pull it off, and install it again. Line up the pump tangs first, then turn and push until it fully seats the splines.

Larry I haven't done this before so bare with me my friend...So you are saying to pull it off completely, than reonstall making sure to feel the 2 "clunks" and it locks in (thats what directions say) and than shift trans alittle you mean with the colum shifter? or just the hole trans itself? Whe we put it on we felt the 2 clunks as it seated in so I am not sure if it got pulled out or nocked out a little as we dropped in motor, or is it we were not fullt seated to begin with?

Yes, pull it off completely. If you look down into the trans (along the input splines), you will see 2 tabs. Line those tabs up with the notches on the converter nose. Then turn and push, turn and push until you feel it engage the splines. Should happen twice. Try using some duct tape to hold the converter in until you bolt the engine and trans together. You don't want it to pop out while you are lining things up. When you bolt everything together, you should be able to spin the converter. If not, it isn't seated, try again. This should help, it is from the TCI site:

"Is there an ideal way to measure the converter and transmission outside the car to make sure you should have the proper clearance between the converter and the flex plate before installation?

Answer: Yes, you can use a straight edge, laying it across the face of the bell housing. (Engine side) Then with the converter installed in transmission, take a ruler and measure the distance from the straight edge down to the mounting pad of the converter. The measurement should be as follows:
GM Turbo-Hydramatic 4L60 1 1/8" from Bell housing to Pads
GM Turbo-Hydramatic 4L60E 1 1/8" from Bell housing to Pads
GM Turbo-Hydramatic 4L80E 1 1/8" from Bell housing to Pads
GM Turbo-Hydramatic 350 1 1/8" from Bell housing to Pads
GM Turbo-Hydramatic 400 1 3/16" from Bell housing to Pads
GM Powerglide 1 1/8" from Bell housing to Pads
Ford C-6 1 1/8" from Bell housing to Pads
Ford C-4 1 1/8" from Bell housing to Pads
Ford AOD & AODE 1 1/8" from Bell housing to Pads
Chrysler Torqueflite 727 1 ΒΌ" from Bell housing to Ring gear (NOT PADS)

Note: Distance may vary either way .050"."

Was you motor balanced ?? What flexplate is on there now ??

Why exactly wont your converter bolt up to the current flexplate ??

  20. kick71

    kick71 Mike

yes it was balanced. The flexplate on there now only has the one set of holes for the converter to bolt into and they don't line up??. I noticed on others there are 2 sets of holes. Should I not use a different flexplate than the one the motor was set up with? Maybe a large converter to fit bolt patter on this flexplate? I have a 9" Transmission specialties street converter 2400-2800 stall
