Here are a few pic of my auto tech shop at my high school. A brief description. Paint booth, 3 two post lifts, Alignment station, wheel balancer, drill press, bench grinders, 2 HUGE snap-on tool chests with snap-on tools, full indoor exhaust catchers, floor drains, brake machine, 4 person sink, welder, blast cabinet, full sound system, classroom, engine room, 8 or so engine stands with engines mounted, lockers, and thats all i can think of for now. We (The Auto Club :bglasses: ) Have built a muscle car, with a Buick. :Brow: All work done by the students. This first pic is of the paint booth.
This is where the bench grinders, brake machine, drill presses, lockers, and some work surfaces for the OPE engines. Notice the Snap-on cabinets on the walls. :Brow:
Here is one of the Auto Club's car. Spitfire 1500, A project waiting to be started. We planning on dropping a big block in.
Here is where the OPE engines are stored until Auto Tech 1 (me) rebuilds em'. More storage for anything.
Here is another of the Auto Club's projects, a 1941 Dodge Power Wagon(in progress), its the Shell and frame behind it. See the Box to the right with the Ford Blue oval? That's a fresh crate motor from the Ford factory with 0 miles on it. Ford donated it after they saw us in a engine competetion. I think its the 4.6L.
Are engines and engine stands. Can you say BIG BLOCK? :Brow:  The straight 4 by the red one is a Flathead Ford. The Dodge Power Wagon's motor is also a torque monster.
This is the Glory and pride of the Auto Club. Our Big Block Buick Regal. I'll get a better pic. The interior is original from the factory except a few gauges. New paint, rims, tires, engine, tinted glass. Its getting an alignment at the moment. (I'll get a better pic tomorrow)
What's this Big Block in the Buick you speak of? Well its out of an 80's Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS. 350cid with 4bbl rochester. Heater core removed. This is a nice Chevrolet motor. Engine mounts were made by the students too. Wheres the 3.8L Buick motor?, a few years back after a class was looking over the carb they unhooked the fuel line, and then class finished. One of the next class' students decided he would go work on it without telling or asking the teacher. He decided, to fire it up. So after about 10 seconds of cranking, with fuel pouring over the engine a spark ignited the gas. Immediately the engine went up. Luckily 2 older guys grabbed fire extinguisher's and doused the flames. The engine was a total loss. This happened in the old shop.
And lastly for today, Is one of two of the Snap-on tool chests/cabinets. :Brow: And yes if your wondering thats a girl walking out of the shop area.
Wow now that is really cool!! Thats a lot of neat stuff you guys got there holy crap. My school's shop was nothing nearly as neat as that!! I'm guessing you enjoy that class. Have fun!!! :TU: :3gears: Patrick
How big of a school is that? We had a big arse wood shop+machine shop but we had to drive over to the MATC for auto tech. Even there it was one lift and only enough room for the shop car, about 20 chairs and a huge parking lot.
Cody, My school is 2400 guys and gals. Yea alot. The school was just remodeled during tha last 4 years. After poorly done additions almost every year since 1951 or so they decided to gut and redo the whole school. My class is 28, but the class usaully gets smaller as you go from Auto Tech 1 to Auto Diagnostics, and finally Body & Paint. Yea Pat, it is my favorite class, always goes by the quickest though. We also have a smaller wood shop, and a printing shop where the school paper is printed. The new acedemic building is 3 stories(industrial tech classes on 1st), and over the length of a football field. Have you ever heard of UTI?, they ocassionallly come here.
They built my high school (Brand new! 20 Million dollars! Huge fuss!) in '96 and within 3 years, it was at the number of students it was built to hold and the year that I graduated, we had about 3k students (about 1 2/3 past how many it was built to hold). I just don't get how they could spend thousands on printing presses and 3 separate computer rooms, some kind of wierd 4-h type of wing w/baby pigs and plants, etc but couldn't figure on building or even having a seperate room for auto tech for the 1/3 of the students doing burnouts in the parking lot before+after school and then they whine about it. o No: We probably resurfaced that parking lot a few times with new rubber though. :Brow:
Just found out in Auto Club that we have to find a new body and frame for the Buick. We have a local towing guy looking, :Brow: if he impounds something its likey it'll be in out shop the next day. My teacher said pretty much any G-bodies, Buick Regal, Olds Cutlass, and Monte Carlo. He also said we might end up with a Camaro. BTW. The Regal is and 83'. Also we going to buy a go-kart kit with some extra money and put a V-twin engine we recieved. :Brow: :3gears: Cody, our high school is a little crowded but thats cause they didnt let any seniors off campus the first 3 weeks or so. And my class is 700 and the normal size is usually 500. No one here does any burnouts or squealing of tires. Cops get on your case real fast. :spank:
The closest thing we ever had to "off campus" was this "senior pass" crap which was conveniently discontinued as soon as the new principal took over which also coinceded with me becoming a senior. Our lunch hour was always a pain as well, 3k kids, 3 lunch hours=1,000 kids trying to get a place to sit in the 850 max capacity lunch "hall". Lines of 70+ kids at a time and stacked 8 deep at the "snack bar". It's a wonder I made it out alive. One thing we quickly learned when becoming a freshman, don't piss off anyone at lunch. There's nothing like a herd of pissed off people, especially when they haven't had anything to eat since last night (we started at 7:50am and what teenager gets up before 7:30?).
