What Idiots. Bullett as an afterthought? How is that possible. It’s number one. Any Fast and Furious is just Trash. Flying cars are still a few years off.
Two Lane Blacktop Bullitt Vanishing Point (remake nearly as good) Original Gone in 60 Seconds Driver Moonrunners White Lightning Duel Cannonball Brewster McCloud Two Lane Blacktop is the undisputed car movie IMHO. It starts with cars, has cars thru the entire film, and ends with cars. It's not one chase scene, but rather cars and racing are a way of life for the characters in the film.
All good choices. Your list is superior to theirs. Smoky and the Bandit needs to be in there somewhere. Two dark horse picks. The French Connection and the 7 Ups just for the chases.
Here is 7upd car chase. They stole the sound from the Bullet cars! Same driver too. Bill Hickman. Passengers reactions are priceless.
While not strictly a car movie, I like dazed and confused. A GTO judge ,Super Duty TransAm, and ,LS5 Chevelle amongst other muscle cars.
Had it typed out but dropped it in favor of White Lightning. While S & B is very entertaining, I went for the grittier film Reynolds did... OOPS Forgot Dirty Larry, Crazy Mary The Driver with O'Neal Hot Rod California Kid Bad Georgia Road It's a Mad Mad Mad World Redline 7000 The Blues Brothers Heart Like a Wheel Blazing Magnum (Canadian one with the Skylark) I got an odd one. Could anyone see Live and Let Die's car and boat chase make a list?
If you don't have American Graffiti on your list stop writing because you missed the boat. Who cares about Oscars when comparing car movies? And the guy who wrote the story only used movies he saw made after he was born, probably.
Remember the McConahay line? “Watch the Leather when kids were getting into the back seat of his Chevelle? Cracked me up.
Here is a forgotten gem for you guys. Saw it years ago. The most interesting thing I remember from it was the trainloads of new cars going by on open cars. It’s 1973 though so the ship had already sailed.
Don’t forget Crossing The Bridge. There are a bunch of Buick’s including a dealership with some GS’s for sale on the lot.
You might think they stole it from Bullitt but at least they got rid of the STUPID " Double Clutching " sound effects . That ruined the Bullitt chase scene .
