Jarrod i built a few small engines myself and would like to help you out here. First, did you let the engine warm up before engaging it? Drive it around a little bit, then put her in gear when up to optimum running temperature. A friends lawn tractor stalled when we put it in gear casue it didnt warm up. See what happens.
Rob , here's what i know as of today : The tractor has definetly been warmed up before using. The second thing is that it would stall every now and then when he got into the heavier grass. We were thinking of putting a tow rope on it and straping it to a tree and see if it stalls again. Or even tow a car with it like we've done before. We figure if it won't pull a car it's an internal problem. Now i have to Thank all of you for your input on this matter. You've all been very helpful. Now let's see what happens tommorrow, when we test it again. I'll keep you informed.
Another method to check for a weak cylinder is to let the engine warm up and then pull each spark plug wire off (with a rubber handled pliers. If you pull the 1st wire off and the engine about dies it is a good cylinder. If there is no change in the idle you may have a problem. Do the same with the 2nd cylinder, and note if there is a difference in the tone of the engine compared to your first cylinder test.
