I agree. What you get out of the El Camino is all good.

Camino has a bent frame. thats why the last owner transfered the drive train to a Vega. Other than the L fender and door the rest of the body is solid. It wont be a roller when I get done and I am taking the rear and front disk off and not putting the old parts back on. Heck, I dont even plan on taking it off the trailer when I pull the parts. If any of you know someone that wants the rest of the car give em my contact info.

I would take it if I were out there! I have some disc brake spindles for that thing, I can throw it in the box with the other wheels! Looks great! :TU:

Kelly, It looks like the spindles and rotors off the camino will work on the lark. Thanks for the offer!:beers2:

Ya know Johnny, I don't really know. the pics of the front of the Camino are in post 1 of this thread. It has square headlights so its probably later 70's car. The lark is not power brakes and I wasn't going to change that.
On a Positive note I did get the engine to crank and run today. It sounded really loud in the driveway with only open manifolds. Theres no rad or core support for that matter so I only ran it long enough to set the timing. The Holley leaks like a siv from the front and rear bowls. Was a challenge to get it mounted to the intake. I also left the converter un bolted from the flex plate so it didn't squirt trans fluid from the open lines. My headers should be here in the next few days and once mounted I'll put the clip back together. Changing out the rear end will be next on the list so I can get a drive shaft made. A few odds N ends after that and I'll be headed to the track.

It's at least a 78, didn't change much after that and stoped in 87, need to leave that dog on the porch, it want hunt. The drum will work for what your doing with the car. The spread bore can be tricky, use as short studs and bon't tighten any down until all the nut are started, Good luck,Johnny :3gears:

Headers came yesterday afternoon and I had them mocked up in place within an hour of getting home from work. This morning I picked up the gaskets and bolted them in place after getting home. Fired it up and it sounds sweet! I can imagine what a PITA it would be doing that job with the fenders and wheel tubs on the car.
I pulled all the parts I needed from the Camino and took it to the scrap yard. Netted over 200.00 to put back into the budget. I saved the fiberglass hood with scoop that came on the car. Maybe I can sell it to a Chevy guy. Also saved a fiberglass cowl type scoop that I might put on the lark when done. also found a nice canister type fuel filter under the car and a set of switches inside along with a momentary switch that might have been used for a trans brake or N02. Maybe tomorrow if the wife lets me I'll swap the rear ends. While its apart I may box the lower arms as well.

Sorry about the sideways pics. If it makes ya twitch let me know and I will re post.

Installed my headers last night with the wells n fenders in place. Yes it would have been easier 3 weeks ago when the front end was off but the project had to move forward not knowing when the headers were coming in... Luckly, my buddy has a 4 post lift which made the installation alot easier then laying on my back. Should be able to turn the key next week on a fresh 455 build. Excited to hear those puppies growl. Did u run it open headers or connected to exhaust system? Loud?

Open headers baby!! Yeah it was loud. I'm sure my neighbors hate me.
Still no rad or core support in place so I could only run it for a minute or 2. The cam sounded nice too. I'm not planning on any more exhaust system than to run a couple of 3" pipes out to the sides.

Cars comming along fine. Yesterday I droped the rear out and will have to reuse the lower trailing arms as they are a few inches longer than what was on the camino. While their off I will sand blast and box them before reinstalation. should have it back together wedsday. A friend says he may have a drive shaft all ready made that might fit with the proper yolk on it.
Im still with in the budget

I pulled that and tossed it on the for sale pile yesterday. I had a quick but passing thought about putting the E brake in the front drums so I could have a line lock and then quickly flused that outta my mind.
I will be starting a parts for sale thread for the stuff Im not gonna re ues.

The guy that owns the local repair shop I use for stuff I don't wanna do myself races a 68 Camero that runs 9's with a BBC @ 800HP. He has Holley on his car and knows how to make it go fast. For such a small town we have a wealth of racing talent. Unfortunately were all over 50 so the local racing report heard on the only in town radio station (3 times a week)calls the group "The Geritol Racing Team"

Today I got the rear end all buttoned up. Bled the brakes out and put on the rear tires. It looks like its going to set pretty nice. I got a few more odds and ends to do on the front end of the car before I put the fenders and hood on then start gutting the interior out. I picked up my seats from Johnny on Friday and the shifter arrived Thursday. My budget is tapped out until I sell some more parts off the car. If theres anything you need or want let me know. I will be starting a for sale thread soon. Heres a cell phone video. quality is kinda crappy and the sound is really bad.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1w9BavnBrU&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
