On your next go round with the engine, one thing that will add life to the block is a light weight recipercating assembly. An after market crank (4340 or better) will also be a stronger main line in the block and keep it from flexing. When i give people this advise the first thing they say is, thats alot of money. But they will spend four times that and three engines later realize that they should have spent the money the first time around and have it done right. Just something to think about. Good luck.
