Looks like some pretty good Head to Head competion on evil-bay. Unrestored vs. Restored. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-GS...oryZ6144QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Jeff
An interesting question is what it will bring on the second listing relative to the first. Oftentines, that figure will be less than the first but we will see.
It seems amazing, at least in the pictures. I wonder if it is ever started, or is it pushed from the trailer to the display area? The exhaust manifolds seem so perfect. The seats-- has anyone ever sat in them? They seem so perfect too. It is, certainly, awesome but I don't think I want a piece of artwork that big... o No:
Frank, You asked, "I wonder if it is ever started, or is it pushed from the trailer to the display area?" Well, Just to dispell a rumor, I have judged John's car many times at the GS Nationals, it is a beautiful car and does run. All cars in the Concours class are required to move under their own power to the show area, otherwise they are not judged. Duane
Second time around for this car in less than a month. First time bid to 165K. Seller had 3 weeks since the last auction to talk to prospective buyers about his car. GSX market heating up like many of the other top dog muscle cars. I don't think the seller needs to test the market this time around on Ebay. I think its relisted to sell!! I bet it does! 200K is my guess. Just my two cents. Patrick
Numbers matching block ? Somewhere I thought I heard that this GSX's engine block was decked and the numbers on the block were surfaced off of the block? Is this true or is it just a rumor? I didn't see on E-bay any pictures of the engine block numbers or any mention of them being on the block. Are the original numbers from the factory still on the block? Inquiring minds want to know!? GSX Eric :3gears:
The current owner (John A.) addressed this in the last thread about this car. Here are his comments: Okay guys, here is the juice right from thje horse's mouth. The previous owner will attest to the fact the engine is original to the car and John Osborne who did all the engine, transmission work, all mechanicals and also reassembled the car will verify that this is the original motor to the car and that after the block was cleaned you could make out the serial numbers. This car is legit down the line! The thread is here
At risk of getting myself into trouble for an opinion... At this level stocks or real estate seems like a better investment. Where is a $160K car going to go, really? You can't drive it hard on the street or strip to enjoy it for fear of damaging something. What good is it to drive Buick's best muscle car around like a little old lady, or worse yet just trailer it around and sit in a lawn chair at shows looking at it. Different story if you're Jim Lore and put the whole thing together yourself and are an expert at the most intricate details. In that case it is fun to talk to people about the car and the experience, etc.
Your opinion is valid! No one knows where we go from here. My guess is up. Supply and demand is one factor. Boomers have the disposable cash and are willing to spend it. The Buicks still are not selling for what Mopars, Copos, Yenkos, Boss 429's and some Shelbys are. I view these cars in a category of their own when it comes to supply and demand for muscle cars in todays market. I think with new retro mustangs selling like hotcakes. Dodge getting ready to re-introduce the Hemi-Challenger, the market for certain old muscle cars will still rise. This trend has been with us for years now.
I'm inclined to agree with you Mike but stocks and real estate no longer seem to be as predictable investments thanks to fed chairman Alan Greenspan who is doing all he can to kill our home values and stock investments with overdoing interest rate increases. I have been trying to sell my NW suburban Chicago area home for 6 months (homes in my area formerly sold in a week and now none are selling) and have lowered the asking price 4 times... the real estate market is cooling. Who knows what will happen there. Our 401k dropped big $$$ in 2000 when the dot-com bubble burst and 6 years later, we have yet to recoup our stock values back to where we were in 2000. The Barrett-Jackson auction is later in January in Scottsdale. That can be a good barometer as to where musclecar prices are headed. At least with a musclecar, you can have fun with it and enjoy it. Paul
If you want to enjoy a car then this isn't the car for you, if your Tom Gerrard (I know it's not a convertible) then you buy it because it's a good investment, it's no longer a car, it's as much a piece of history as a dinosaur skeleton and it will be worth whatever someone is willing to spend to preserve it for the next owner.
Ditto. Cars should be driven :3gears: REAL estate is a better investment :TU: (thats my biz) Good to see it is worth so much but, I will keep goin for the rare and inexpensive. Shoot where was I a few years ago. It is only good for us all if he gets his price, I was drooling over his car and trailer at BG. Does the car come with the trailer and truck :Smarty: :Smarty: ou: Out of my league oh well.
I offered John 100k at 2004 nationals. If he gets his 200 he is looking for that would be a 100 percent on his money over the last year and a half. If you know realestate that will do as well buying this car should be no problem. From 1997 on if you know the car market you should have been able to do a minimum of 10 percent on your money per MONTH. Will it last at this rate? Normally the higher the risk the more return. Banks are full of money deposited by people looking for a safe investment.
I talked to John at the 2004 GS Nationals he said his car was worth $250,000. then and said in another year it will be worth $500,000. I guess we will see if he is right. farmer!boy
Better hope I don't ever win the lottery...I'd own this on a friday and thrash it like its supposed to have been on saturday at the track. It's just a car for all sakes... :3gears: :3gears: :3gears:
After the block was cleaned? Ok...we are still a little fuzzy here? Short of contacting the current owner (John) does anyone here know the answer? The statement says that the original owner says its the original block. Ok thats fine. But the question was not if the motor was original but, if... the original factory installed numbers are stilll on the block? Also it says that the numbers on the block were still readable after cleaning. But what a couple of us were wondering is was the block surfaced after cleaning and are the original engraved/stamped numbers untouched that the factory stamped into the block, still there? GSX Eric :3gears:
i saw in the tanker vette auction where the block was checked sonically for other numbers to make sure the numbers hadn't been punched in. it had certificate for the sonic check. you could probably do that to find the numbers.
