When dealing w/YO make sure you calculate their shipping into your total cost. I have dealt with OPG and they seem to be the leaders in the parts biz for specific model parts such as door panels, headrests, carpet, etc. I just placed a third order with them before 12-31-03, ordered over $1000 and that meant free shipping. All the parts I got so far have been top notch. I compared their pricing with YO, Poston's, PPI etc. They beat them all. Remember, Legendary supplies all Buick Skylark interior panels and they are swamped with orders. As for sheet metal, I ordered from Tabco, great parts, fast delivery. For suspension, I go to AutoZone and all the parts there were top notch! If you need more info, let me know. I am doing another body-off on a 70 Skylark conv. Chassis done, finishing up the body now. 455 is next!
Ordered my Moog Springs from Rock Auto. Fast delivery and was close to $50.00 dollars cheaper than Autozone ( they got to pay Jesse now). Even with shipping cost.
Tabco makes the sheet metal for the Skylarks. JW uses their parts and I do now. They are quality parts, not flimsy like many off-shore parts. Check out their site www.tabcobodyparts.com
Parts I ordered my parts over a year ago...things do change! As I recall, OPG did back order a few things but since I was in no hurry, it was OK. I got everything finally, now if the weather will warm up I'll start reinstalling! We had snow last night! As to the quality of the other supplier's parts, things do change so I would still check with them. Kanter's has gotten good review from folks, and for some cars they are the only source! Good for them! I was in on the group buy from PST that fell apart due to lack of concensus. I wasn't disappointed at the time as they could not tell me who their supplier/brand for parts was. One difference I have noticed is that some of the overseas parts do not have grease fittings..... I did not know about Rock Auto then, sounds like a good supplier if they carry MOOG. Make sure to check your lower bushings for the correct ones (round/oval) unless the 71 is all the same. - Bill
Buicks should have two lower round bushings. Only Olds Cutlass had one round and one oval, I have 3 Cutlasses and parted out many more. If you have a round and oval, your lower A-arms have been changed.
I agree with you Ken with saving money on the parts, but like anything, you certainly get what you pay for. Look at OPGI-yeah their prices looked pretty good, but they are out of stock-what good is that?!!! When I was restoring my car,I looked at who could deliver the parts to me at a fair price, along with the quality that I expected. Like anything, you have to watch out what you pay for.
Does anyone buy parts through National Parts Depot (NPD)? They are pretty close to my house and I have been buying quite a bit through them. They are cheaper then Year One from what I have seen in their catalog - they stock chevelle stuff! Quite a bit of their stuff is the same as Buick. Now with the 10% Year One discount for BPG, it is probably a wash price wise. It just kind of irritates me that I need to get a discount to have the same price as NPD plus I am close so no shipping charges or waiting time. I think the quality is about the same as Year One. Anyone have the same results? Anyway it another option for getting parts!
I really won't order from OPGI because for one, they have too many discrepencies in there part numbers vs. their applications for some parts. That worries me because that could just be the tip of the iceberg. I don't feel very comfortable when an aftermarket company is less informed than me. Also, besides my catalog taking 14 months to show up, my window weatherstrips were on back order for over 1 full year. Poston had them to me in less than a week. The deal with OPGI, besides not really knowing "our" product, is that they probably have nothing in stock to reduce overhead. This would explain the ridiculous back order times on stuff that everyone else has in stock. That's why OPGI is usually cheaper. Because you have to wait till retirement to receive anything. uzzled:
Ken--Rock Auto (rockauto.com) is an internet seller of auto parts. Based in Wisconsin. Not a supplier of resto parts, just auto parts---but they have good prices and they sell MOOG. Patton
Well, I placed an order with rockauto.com this morning and received an email this evening with the words "Your order has been shipped" in it. Once the order arrives I'll check out the contents, but suffice it to say for now I'm satisfied with Rock Auto. Their prices were good too! That center link was nearly twice that other places. Bruce, I didn't realize BPG members get a discount at Year One. I will remember that in the future as there are several items I would like to get from them. On a positive note, I did get my OPGI catalog in a timely manner! As Bill said, things change over time. Maybe OPG isn't run all that well these days... o No: Thanks again everyone! :TU:
Sure do, not only do they have decent prices on their parts, thier shipping is honest and they are super freindly and have many parts that will fit our cars but nobody else carries (like the door latch/lock assembly and ragtop sunvisor supports). I also use local whenever possible, its amazing what NAPA and autosource carry... later Tim
