    Stock Buick 300 springs are ultra weak. I used some cheap Comp Cams chevy outers springs (due to retainer & damper to boss clearance no inner dampers on both int/ex and on the ex. no seals.) with a Crane cam. 204/216 @050. 456/484 lift. Pulls over 5,000 with a 2bll and gets 3rd gear scratch. More than enough for a cruiser.

    Well im lookin for something thats going to give my 'lark some balls. It only has 90,xxx miles on it. I was going to freshin the valve train when I throw the cam in. Ive seen the poston 110 thrown around alot what do you think of those or should I just call Comp Cams.
    Edit: also will headers from the rover 215 v8 fit a 300 cause I found some cheap. Poston said they dont have enough orders in to get theres made.

    Get a Poston 110a and some new springs. I don't know about the Headers. I ported out my Exaust manifolds and they work great. Forget about the Headers.

    Hey Ponch how did you port the stock manifolds? And could I do duals of the the stock manifolds? That was the only reason I wanted headers. Sorry for all the questions Im just trying to get this project rolling. Oh yah on Postons site it says excellent if stock switch pitch th300 is retained. I have no idea what tranny I have, I just know its a 2 speed.

    Hi Star; I just removed the Manifold, and with a Rotary file I got rid of all the excess metal. I ported everything. Intake,Heads and Exaust. If you look inside the Exaust manifold, you will see where the exaust gas has to go around a sharp bend. Smooth those out so there isn't such a sharp bend. Open up the outlet also. I don't see why a muffler shop can't make you up a set of duals. If you take your time with it and do it right, it's a screaming little engine.

    Yah I didnt think it was too bad of a motor. It just needs some TLC to run right. Its in good condition just dirty and needs minor adjustments. Thanks Ill get to taken it apart this weekend and see about home porting. Thanks

    I used the Flowmaster 2.5" American Muscle system on my car (should be the same as yours 64-67 A-body) but I had to get the local exhaust guy to make some down pipes from the manifolds to the header pipes at the trans crossmember.

    Lose the 2 speed and put in a TH-350. It will make a world of difference.

    Dear Mr Noname,

    I let myself get talked into a 110 as they were out of 110a, somewhat disappointed, not a big difference. I did replace the springs, factory were at 65 lbs, new ones closer to 100 (if i recall correctly)...I would follow Ponch recommendations. I port matched my intake to heads, same with exhaust and probably emptied ou1/3 to 1/2 cup of fillings from each exhaust manifold. You can recurve your distributor. Their is a great post from Larry the Wizard on this subject. I just have become fond of this little engine, parts are tough to get and a little more expensive. Buick is somewhat of an exclusive breed anyway!! Goodluck.

    Snow bound the only reason I keep the 2-speed is because the whole car is numbers matching and I dont have any money for another trans. I'm still paying for the trans in my Camaro. I also dont have anywhere to stash the 2speed.

    Hey Mike; I picked up a poston 110a cam when I first got my car. I took out the old cam, just threw the lifters in a box, figuring I was putting new ones in anyway. I measured the lobes and they were very close to the new cam. I called the guy I bought the car from and he said Yea, I put a "Potson" 110 cam in it. So I sent the 110a back figuring 140 bux for 5 extra ponies wasn't worth it. So I had an old cam, old lifters mixed up in a box, and new lifters. What a dummy!! That was 3 Years ago and am now getting some rattling at the rocker arm level. Probably wiped out a lobe or Two. So I'll have to tear it apart again. Live and learn.:spank:

    Hey Ponch question, Would it be worth it for me to search for a 4bbl intake so I could get a 4bbl carb or should I just get like a 650 cfm 2bbl. I really dont know much about carbed cars, Im always workin on my LT1. Thanks

    I've been 'lurking and learning' from this thread as a new guy to the site.
    Has someone looked into the possibility of remaking the 4 barrel intake? Is there enough demand to make them? I've had patterns made for gas pump and air meter parts (my mail order business). A friend of mine has a pattern shop.

    Do the 4-bbl and slap in a Crane 260 HMV (or whatever they're calling it now), like RG67 did.
    ...however, if you really want some balls, dump the 300 for a 350.
    You won't know what hit you.

    If I figured it out right a .030 over 300 equals 355ci. so why bother with a 350 if I already have that? I realize there are many more options for the 350 but still, this 300 is a beast if taken care of.

    If my math is wrong please tell me.

    You've juxtaposed your "5" and your "0".
    300 + .030 = 305

    300= 3.75 x 3.4 x 8 (basically a 225 V6 with two cylinders added)
    350 = 3.8 x 3.85 x8

    ...notice the .450" longer stroke and the .050" larger bore.

    I've driven 300's and I've driven 350's.
    Trust me, its like night and day. Especially the launch.
