I think it would be really cool to have some forward mounted twin turbo headers for the Nailhead.

It's probably the old 'field of dreams' line.....build it and they will come.

you got it!!! Twin or single?? i am thinking to fab a set for a single to start with but might go to a twin setup.. i only have one turbo and wastegate right now and to get the same turbo and wastegate will be another $1400 for me. tough with steering box and power steering pump on drivers side with a skylark. they will be 1/2 flange stainless and will most likely 316 grade. Anything in the 320 series i think might be to much. i am looking @ 1 5/8 primaries and depending on space may be a 1 3/4 primaries to v band flange. i will not be mounting the t4 flange to the header because i want to be able to change turbo location if needed to try to fit different applications. will be using a v band flange with a t4 flange to mount the turbo to the header. will be cutting out some flanges hopefully this week. tomorrow everything will get draw out in cad. will be pulling off my headers and my current turbo setup tonight and starting the layout for the new stuff..
    Wish me luck!!!

Re: is thier a market for nailhead turbo headers??

I'm wondering if you could do the headers the same for either setup?

For the single turbo setup, have the DS pipe loop down and over towards the PS and meet up just before the turbo on the PS. Wouldn't a common 'plenum' in that area be a good spot for the wastegate?

    Headers more like this:

    <a href="http://s35.photobucket.com/albums/d191/GSXMEN/Temp/?action=view&amp;current=lsxsingleturbo.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d191/GSXMEN/Temp/lsxsingleturbo.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

And, the turbo and wastegate more in this location:

    <a href="http://s35.photobucket.com/albums/d191/GSXMEN/Temp/?action=view&amp;current=turbo6LwithWbodymanifolds.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d191/GSXMEN/Temp/turbo6LwithWbodymanifolds.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

my GS has manual steering and is a manual trans equipped car so i have a bit more room in some areas and a lot less in others

Re: is thier a market for nailhead turbo headers??

that first pic is how the headers are hopeing to look like.. the nice thing is that depending on your setup it can be a dual or a single. just unbolt the vband and swap the crossover to a t4 flange and pipe and place the turbo anywhere you want. i want to go with 321 stainless but it is REAL costy.. i will not bother to put all the time and money into this is use t304 and that have it crack 6 months down the road. so i think we are going with maybe a 316 ss. i will be hopeing to have pictures of the jig up bye next week to show some progress.. any advice or opinion is always welcome.. 1000's different views is always better than my one. My real gd friend is helping me with the cad and he is looking forward to hopefully making a few sets to see if this is a market he wants to get into on the side..

    Thanks

Re: is thier a market for nailhead turbo headers??

just made the drivers side turbo header. i made a mock up turbo header out of mild steel using a old nailhead header. it looks like the top picture because i will have the ability to switch from single to twin turbo just by changing piping.instead of having a t4 flange i did the v band flange. i was able to fit #6 port and #8 port on drivers side and avoid the steering shaft on the 65-66 skylarks. Now have to do #2 and #4 than tie it into the collector. If anyone had the full length headers they will tell you on how the header is in the way of the oil filter and the motor mounts if you have to change them. same deal with the starter.. no longer a problem !! i am going to start marking the stand so i can start fabracation on the 321 stainless version. i have been shopping for the stainless but cost is very high.. $26 a foot.. so i am looking into $300 range in material. i might start looking into pre-bent pieces to save on cost. you can the cheaper 304 ss but it not recommended. To mad because i can get alot of it for a REAL gd price.
once i finish both sides i will post some pictures.. i will hopefully in the garage on sunday and get some work done.

not sure if it will ,do you have a picture of a stock ac setup? i will be using this setup with the 6 rib serpintine belt set up that i am building. it is all going to work together and all come together hopefully at the same time.

it looks like it the tubing would be below the compressor. i dont think power steering will be so lucky..!! i am going to the machine/ metal shop tonight to work on the drivers side. i just talked to my friend who is welding all of the 321 ss and we are making three sets. the first set will be a markup not usable but made out of mild. second set will be mild steel or 304 stainless that we will run on the car and the third set will be 321 ss that will be the final product..

Re: is thier a market for nailhead turbo headers??

yea my car will have p/s and a alt but they are getting mounted lower and the p/s has a remote res. i used the same style pumps they use in most modern new cars. i got #2,#4,#6 header pipes done on the drivers side tonight, tomorrow i will finish up on #8. the pass side is already mocked up. i am going to post up some pics soon. i want get the turbo in place so you can see the location of the turbo also.

Re: is thier a market for nailhead turbo headers??

give me your opinion.. i think i am going to have the turbo right ov er the alt bracket. i am making a plate that will bolt to the turbo flange and the alt braket so i can keep the turbo high enough for oil drainage into the fuel pump blockoff. my friend like it better lower right near the head light but i wasent crazy. here are a few pics.. sunday we are making our first run of headers and to be followed by a couple of more sets.

Re: is thier a market for nailhead turbo headers??

if i were attempting this i'd start from scratch with the headers, you have no room for an alternator as it sits and a wastegate will be fun to locate in there as well. from what i have read, smaller tubes are better in turbo header systems to keep velocity and temps high. for your target hp and torque levels a log style manifold would be perfect.

Re: is thier a market for nailhead turbo headers??

I am running a 1.625 od pipe so velocity is up. When building a set a of headers I have never built just a header from the limb. I always build a templet and than build a jig. My alternator is a 6 rib 140amp that will be a low mounted alt on the pass side. I know you said waste gate will be a problem but I don't see why. When looking at the engine it will be on the left side right on the inlet. It is tough to picture but once it is all together it will make some sense. We are meeting on Sunday to knock out the exhaust manifolds and get it on the car and running. I already ran a turbo on this car so I have all the piping, waste gates, bov and flanges so on.
