Re: is thier a market for nailhead turbo headers??

i am not sure if i would. i might be but @ $1,000 for each turbo and i already paid a $1,000 for this one if i do go to twins it will be t67. I just dont have a $2k to get two new ones. tring to do this as affordable as possiable. the pic of the turbo in the picture was just sitting thier on a piece of wood. i made a mount last night and the turbo sits in the alt bracket on a slight angle. i got all the intake pipeing done last night with the oil feed lines done also.bov valve is also installed. will be working on the headers and wastegate location tomorrow all day. hopeing to fireing this thing up shortly. The way it sits i know the intake and the exhaust of the turbo is almost a straight shot with very little fab needed at all. the concern about the alt is understandable but should not be a issue due to the low mounting of the alt. i had a alt in thier last night playing with placement and i have one other alt i want to try because of pulley placement. i was test fitting it last night because i got the bracket made up for the powersteering so i am now searching for the correct 6 rib waterpump pulley i need. think i found it from march that is a sbf 5.0 with ribs not smooth. This is a long an at time anoying process but if it was so easy everyone would have a nailhead with a turbo.i hope when this is all said and done i can have brackets that are easy to make, affordable to buy and some fellow nailheads that are able to benefit and put some turbos on thier cars aswell.

i cant see it clearing ac too if its that close to the alt but idk. ive considered tts on mine but i dont think it would clear unless i done the sts setup

Re: is thier a market for nailhead turbo headers??

i sell you my setup for the sts. i work for about three hours today on the mandrel bender working on the new turbo headers. i have to get the new 1/2 flanges cut on autocad. I am hoping tomorrow i will have them all cut and can finish up on the drivers side header. i thought we would have been faster than what we were but thier is a few compound curves that are tricky.
I want to run ac so i think i might put the a/c right above alt on the pass side. i have a spare a/c compressor that i might toss around in thier but i am not going to worry about a.c yet but this complete setup is ALOTof work...it just isent the headers, it is the serp belt conversion, the re configuring the hole exhaust again, oil drains, feeds, bov, wastegates, and so on... i am going to work on the header crossover tonight and hopefully get something completed today.
i can wait til it is done so i tear it all apart, do final paint and get this car done!!

Re: is thier a market for nailhead turbo headers??

take a look.. give some comments and opinions.i moved the alt to the top and it will clear the turbo, wastegate and exhaust. i temporary mounted the alt and the power steering with the turbo in the final place. i might be able to put the a/c compressor below the alt. i will bring it home tomorrow from work and test fit it. I am going to change the upper rad hose and go to a steel tubing with rubber ends. does anyone use a different t stat housing with a 90 degree bend on it like a sbc?
( the power steering alum bracket will still get ALOT of trimming)

my serpentine belt set up so far has only set me $36 deep into it. i had the jeep tj pump and the sebrings alt so they are freebies. i have to buy the last pulley from march and it is $76 so with the belt i will be in the $130 range.

What do you guys think about tube diameter for the crossover from the drivers side header to the pass side. 2" ,2.25,2.50? i am thinking more toward the 2.250 so i can keep volcity up and keep it easy to run under the engine. any takes on this???

Re: is thier a market for nailhead turbo headers??

Just finalized the bracket and serpintine belt setup. i do have to make a spacer for the water pump pulley but i will try to get that done tomorrow on the lathe.

*Crank pulley is a ebay bought gn 3.8 pulley, redrilled to fit a nailhead. $38
*Power steering pump is a jeep tj pump with a bracket mounted to the drivers side cylinder head using the bolts from the thermostat crossover tube.(free)
*Alternator is a chrysler sebrings maybe.. looks like a ford exsplorer alt also.
    (free)
*Waterpump pulley toyota prius/echo/scion xa/xb redrilled and used .750 spacer(free)
*idler pulley/tensioner toyota 4 runner, custom bracket set up like a alt bracket with a built tensioners.
i still need to buy a belt and still need to basecoat and clear the brackets and pulleys. once it fully assembled i will take some complete pictures. thier is no reason why you cant go to the junk yard and put this same thing together for under $125.00
Thier is room for a/c but it would be low mounted right near the fuel pump boss.

Re: is thier a market for nailhead turbo headers??

i am sure you could, but you would have to change your a/c compressor to one with a 6 rib pulley on it. you may be able to use your factory alt and just switch to a gm 6 rib pulley. One more thing to consider is that the GN crank pulley is a few inches out further which may be a need for some bracket modifacations.

Re: is thier a market for nailhead turbo headers??

well the compressor was missing from the car originally plus this nailhead engine was a no ac engine that im converting so thats no big deal so basically would it be good idea to just find pulleys similar in size to the old and go from there?

Re: is thier a market for nailhead turbo headers??

i havent work on the setup for a few days so thier is no new updates. we did make the jig to put in the press to bend the tubing for the nailhead cylinder head port design so it fits in the flanges. the cad is done for the 1/2 flanges and the final flange set will be cut tomorrow @ work. the header pipes are bent already so i have to set it all up in the new flange and get these finished and sent to jet hot for coating. i dont mind making a few extra sets of brackets for the serp setup.i will look through my a.c compressor collection and see what i can find. i have some gm compressors i just have to get the turbo piping done so i can get the a/c worked out.

doc, i cant wait either!!!! i already had this car set up with the turbo and it screwed!!! my problem was i want to make this a REAL driver. Jump in it and not be afraid to take it 3000 miles to flordia just to go during the summer. With how low the car was the headers hit while pulling it in my garage and i just got tired of it so i pulled it apart to redo it. i worked @ the shop for about 4 hours tonight and cut the flanges out on the plasma table. we had some issues with the cad drawing and set us back a few hours.. i got the drivers side pretty much done minus the vband and final welding. pass side tubing has all been bent and just needs final crimping into the flange. all final welding will be done wends so tomorrow i have to get both headers finished.. i will be posting up some pictures hopefully on thurs before they are sent out for jet hot next week.
