Who is doing what to prepair for this monster? I live on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay just north of Baltimore. If this thing follows the coast or comes ashore in North Carolina , it will push the water up the bay and that means trouble. Isabelle in 2004 gave us a record tide of almost 9'above sea level .That doesn't sound bad but the average ground level here is around 5' above sea level. Oh well pray for a hard right turn and good luck to all in her path!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was kinda hoping it would come up into the northeastern gulf and bring some very much needed rain. The lakes and rivers are all but dried up here.
Been through to many of them Sure looks to be a strong 3 or 4 when it get up your way Just be prepaired Water , Food, Gas, We were hit here in stuart by 2 in a months time we were with out electricity for 8 days some people went over 2 weeks with out it . Good Luck Guys stay safe
Typically, homeowners' insurance will pay for wind, but not flood damage. If you are in an area that is prone to flooding, you should have federal flood insurance. It is fairly expensive, but worth it if a flood occurs.
Spent most of the day getting the beach house batten down. Helped some friends get boats out of the water. Gonna be a rough ride on this one I think. Be safe and smart items can be replaced but not lives. I am looking forward to the post hurricane surf on Monday though!
Alan , She doesn't want to make that necessary turn North and help everyone. How far are you from the ocean ? I'm looking out my front window at the Chesapeake and 7 miles of open water to the Eastern shore of Maryland. Bill
He is right in the middle of the sh*t.. With nothing really to slow the storm.. http://travel.yahoo.com/p-map-4886214-map_of_point_harbor_nc-i?startcat=thingstodo This map should work.. Back out a little and you will see what will look different in a few days. The ever changing outer banks..
I'm about 1 block from the sound and 3.5 miles of open water to Kitty Hawk. The Atlantic is another 3 miles away more or less. The old timers around here have always told me at least for the 30 years I have lived here that a Hurricane that comes up the sounds would be the worst case. I guess Sunday morning we will know just how bad. If we are left of the eye it will blow the sounds south and flood Hatteras and Oriental if we are right of the eye it will push all that water up into Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores and here. They are forecasting 7' of surge here and my garage is 9'-6". Hope the surveyor was right that day...lol. Alan
Hopefully the tide will be @ Low when it comes thru, but that probably is only worth 2 1/2 to 3 feet. Every little bit helps. If you a 9.6ft. above sea level you will probably be fine.

You Better Check with Your Insurance Co. NOW!! I know it depends on State, location, Etc., but Texas, requites seperate Windstorm, after I believe it was Rita. Get as much info as you can now, (it may already be to late to add coverage) and Don't take this thing Lightly!! I am Still finding Damage & doing repairs after Ike, and Don't think the Insurance companies ( & FEMA) are going to be your Best Buddies. When the Claims come in, they tighten up the purse strings, and get the Worst adjusters There are STILL buildings with "Blue Roofs" and new "Replacement Construction" going on since IKE, as well. Get prepared for the Worst, & Hope for the Best.
Jay, I didn't make it to the liquor store before Bev issued the state of emergency. So no beer no liquor and I just found out that you can't buy ammo or weapons during the state of emergency either. I do have plenty of food and enough fuel to run both generators for 144 hours. I have panel back feed setups at home and at the office so I can plug in my generator and power up everything 110. Alan
