Installing power window electrical switches

    I need help.
I want to install power windows in my 70 GS Skylark.
I'am going standard Buick power windows. Todd has all the required parts.
The part I need help with is, the location to cut-out of the door panels for the installation of the electrical switches. Front and rear areas. The
Question, is there a template I can buy so I can locate where to cut out the door and rear panels for the switches?
I want the switch locations to be exactly like factory.
Thanks for the help I know is coming. Vet

Maybe in the 1970 Fisher Body Service Manual, but I don't think so because you ordered the car with the electric windows option from the factory.

I know that there is a template in the 1973 FBSM for drilling holes when you have to replace the electric window motors.

My GS never had power windows.
I thought I saw indentations on the backside of the door panels that identify the location of the electrical switches and how much area to cutout to install switches. I could be wrong. Unfortunately I sold my original door and rear panels so I could upgrade to the deluxe interior.

I just emailed Legendary the same questions I just asked on the forum.
Will not get an answer from them until sometime on Monday if I'am lucky. Vet

Stupid question, Is there someone local with a car you can measure off?

Great question. It's very rare to find a 70, 71 or 72 GS Skylark in Northern Virginia. Even rarer to find one with power windows.
Maybe I will get lucky and someone on this forum has an A body with power windows that lived near me. Thanks Vet

In the process of doing the same conversion I collected many pics from other cars to get an idea of the location. I attach them for your reference. At the end it turned out, that the locations for the switches were marked (precut) on the backside of my doorpanels

I suggest you remove the door panels first, to see if they are marked also. If not I am happy to give you the measurements from my car. Just let me know.

I may have an original door panel I can measure for proper switch placement. That will be the easiest part. That is a very big job if done correctly like the factory did it. The doors will have to come off, the dash and all AC ducts will need to be removed (including the defroster duct) to install the factory wiring harness, and the rear window regulators and motors are always a blast to install even after the entire interior is removed. I wish the installer good luck doing this on a frame-off restored car.

    Thank you so much.
I took thought I saw precut on the backside of my panels too.
I send an email to Legendary today (bought their deluxe interior) and I also send an email to the forum member I sold my base interior too, asking if precuts are on the backside of the panels. I hope so.
Thank you so much for ypour help. Your power window switches look real good too

Vet, just curious. What did Legendary give you for a delivery date estimate?

I've gotten a lot of info on my question now. I should be in good shape now.
I have a good friend that owns a restoration & speed performance shop doing the work.
He hasn't done a Buick power window job yet and needed to know the measurements/locations of the window switches. We should be good to go now. Thanks to all for the quick responses and help. Regards Vet

I ordered the entire interior back on December of 2021.
It took 9 months and another month because of a factory measurement screw-up that required both front door panels to be re-fabricated.
It was a mess for awhile but Legendary fixed everything.
I'am happy with the final results. Vet

It's easier to take the doors off when drilling the holes in the door and cowl for the wire harness

I'am sure the shop knows this.
I'am not going to attempt to do this job. At 75, if I get down on my knees, I need an crane to pick me up, lol. Vet

You know, I wasn't using my brain. I have to remove the window cranks and replace them with the electrical switches to cover the crank holes.
That's about as simple as it gets for switch locations.
Gee, this is embarrassing for sure. Vet

I just realized the indents I saw on the backside of the door panels are for power door locks.

If you want it original, you'll have to buy new door panels and quarter panels

New but have holes for crank windows? Power window switches are in a different location. What are you going to do about the round holes already in the panels?
