I'll start out with a simple one

So it looks like this forum will stick around.

I'll go first, and it's a simple question. I'm pretty sure I already know the answer, but just incase I dont....

Would the [entire] front acessory assembly [A/C, P/S, alt] including brackets and the surpentine belt [drool] from a 231 RWD fit onto a buick 350???

How about an even more modern 3800???

    Thanks:D

I've often wondered why not for the 455 as well? Has to be an easy sell if some one lays it out!!!

I'm already pretty sure it will work, but if nobody has an answer for me in the next few days, I'll be breaking new ground to find out for myself.

Hard to believe nobody has done this before, it's a logical and cool swap.

I posted this exact same ? on the GSCA board a couple months back, and everyone said "dont know, but it should work"

    I'll keep 'yall posted:D

    Serpentine belt on 350

I like the way you guys think!! I have this thought for some time. Saturday I am pulling the motor out of my Oldsmobuick for a rebuild. A generious Chicagoland GSCA member is letting me borrow is old pulley set from his 87 GN. I will update you all when I complete the engine, if no one else completes before I do.

    Later--

    Should work for the 350

My brother put a 70 350 into his 81 Cutlass ((replacing the 231) back in the early 90's. All the brackets from the 231 bolted up to the 350 without any modifications. That was a fun car - he went thru ALOT of back tires!

Someone here must have some parts they can trial fit onto a 455.

hey people phil k here i can tell you that gn belt stuff will bolt onto a 350 with a belt length change if you use a long water pump (v6 or 350 from 73 up )pump. it requires a belt length change that is hard to find i think i got a gm belt last time but that project is long gone . the same thing applys to a 455 pump for a 72 up all the parts will bolt on but the bolts to attach the main bracket to the head are metric on the gn. i had to tap the lh head to 10 mm so i could use the factory bolts to accomidate the large mounting holes in the main braclet all the pulleys bolt to the pump and balancer (gn bolts are american to the balancer and the water pump) currently im building a 300 aluminum head motor for my 62 special with a rover intake and modded gn headers im trying to decide on a 2004r or a bw 6 speed. i have both, think im going to use a megasquirt to control it, should be a great daily driver thanks for listening phil k

o forgot to mention that a 3800 is an on center design i has the banks moved to the rod center line (centered on the journal) .160 in forward so the belt stuff wont bolt on also it bolts to the side of the block(no bolt holes there on a v8) there is an early 3.8 and a late 3.8 front wheel drive that has some stuff worts pirateing but not much water pumps are reversed and oil holes are slightly different also pointed timeing cover where the oil pan bolts on but lots of different oil filter abapters to choose from some dont have a distributor hole and gear rotor oil pump odd dimentions phil k

Can it be done with only the GN brackets, pulleys and the longer water pump? Or do all the accessories have different bolt locations? I have a brand new alternator and P/S pump that I would like to keep.

I have not heard from him in a long time... I usually hear from him every 6 or 8 months. Last I heard he was writing an article on Buick 350 engines.

    Hey guys

I posted several years ago regarding something I used from a 4.3L Chev Blazer, pix's attached. But to answer your question "yes" the V6 Turbo setup will fit the 455 CI with a correct thickness adapter plate to secure it to the left bank cylinder head to align the drive pulley with the rest of the factory pumps and such. There was a guy who did this when I was posting but these systema re rare and there is a price to pay for any turbo related systems like this.

I would asume the 350 CI would work as well if you get the adpater thickness correct and aligned to the drive pulley on the crank.

I have one set of aluminum adapters for the 455 and a off the shelf drive pulley in the box to under drive a system like with a parts list like mine if anyone wants the challenger themselves on a project. The big trick with the chevy setup is to get the water pump running in the right direction, I used several different methods to accomplish this but you have to have fabrication skills to get it done. Kinda Like Orange County Choppers without drama skills.

The pix's attached are for your enjoyment, there are two versions I built as I tried to simplify the water pump rotation issue.
