I walk by a Pantera and hear a lady asking the owner about his car.

Here's a link to George's site that has some great pictures of the Prototype: http://www.buickperformance.com/GSXPrototype.htm
George also lists out some of the differences between this car and a production GSX. Thanks George!

Here's a photo of it back "in the day" taken by Buick at the 1970 New York International Auto Show:

Here's a photo of the GNX Prototype...It, unlike the GSX Prototype, looks completely stock.

Didn't I see a TV show featuring that GNX prototype on it? Also had a couple other very rare cars they test drove. Can't remember what the show was but it was interesting.

Just finished looking at the link with the GSX prototype pictures. All I can say is "Oh my god!" and I'm still working on wiping up the drool.. :Brow:

So much more to that car than I noticed from the pictures posted here. Very, very nice piece of history! :TU:

I cut 2.5"out of the oil pan sump and pickup... removed the air heaters to get the intake horn down a bit and massaged the hood bracing ever so slightly.. it sets about 1/4 inch off the frame up front, it works great though!

and george, keep this under your hat... but I got 3 grand for that gsx!:dollar: don't spend it ask in one place!

that car is gorgeous! I am glad that someone who can take car of it properly got it!

Phil It really *is* a 350...

Guy in Hemi Challenger: "That Chevelle sure sounds good!"

    Me: "That's because it's a Buick Skylark."

Hemi Guy: "Oh man, sorry I saw the "Cown Induction"* hood and thought it was a Chevelle. I wondered why it sounded so good." (nice save!)

*(It's actually a Z/28 hood scoop, but I didn't even want to go there...)

The other one is... what make a 455 a BIg Block?
I respond... its not mine its hers...
or i'll tell them.. you run a tape measure all the way around it and the total is 455 inches. (455/12=37.9 feet)

At least it ends the conversation...:blast:

I'll say this about living and growing up in the Detroit area...you rarely run into some of the people Ive read about on this thread. Considering 85% of the population is or have some connection to the automotive world people in general know what they are talking about. It's not too often that you have to correct someone. But it does happen on occasion.

Not entirely in relation to this thread but I drove my Skylark to a local car show/cruise late in the day and parked it. Walked away to look at some of the other cars and came back about 10 minutes later. I see a guy talking to someone near my car and he points to me. The other guy approaches me and askes if that 68 Skylark is mine. I tell him it is. He says, great, thanks. Kind of confused I continue to my car and look for something in the trunk. Then over the loud speaker I hear, "And the best of show in the GM blah blah catagory goes to the owner of the beautiful black 68 Skylark." Dumbfound, but honored, I walk up to the table and he hands me this 3 foot trophy and says to me, that's a gorgeous car and just the fact that its NOT a Chevellle deserves a trophy on its own". Needless to say, they are as bored of Chevelles as we all are.

Real hard to have a sleeper in our neck of the woods. Everyone looks for slicks and roll bars, they know what GN's and BBB's can do. The Procharger gets a lot of them though, the kids know about them but not so much the old guys.

This reminded me of when I was selling my 62K-mile all numbers matching 327 2-door '68 Chevelle a few years back....

him- A little rough isnt it.

me- Not really, its actually in really good shape for a 35 year old unrestored car.

him- The paint isnt very good.

me- Its the original 35 year old paint, its not going to look new.

him- The interior is getting ratty.

    me- What...

him- Right there by the pedals theres a hole in the carpet.

me- The carpet is 35 years old, did you notice that the dash, seats and headliner are all perfect.

him- Well when I was in highschool, I had one of these that was in much better shape.

    me- How old are you?

    him- 43

me- Are you in the same shape you were in highschool?

    him- :puzzled:

me- Look, Ive got better things to do, are you interested or not.

him- Well how much you asking?

    me- $3,200

him- Dont you think thats to high?

    me- No.

him- But its not even a real Chevelle.

me- What are you talking about.

him- It says right there its a Malibu.

me- Its a Chevelle Malibu, Malibu is the trim package.

him- Well, if it was real Id buy it, will you take $2,000 since its not a real Chevelle?

me- Get the H3LL off my property:rant:

The guy I bought my 72 Skylark from insisted that the engine was a Buick 350 "Rocket" V8. When I told him that "Rocket" was used for Olds engines he said that Buick also called their 4bll engines Rocket V8s. Oh well!

I must be married to her sister. I get the same line. LOL

I needed that laugh, thank you!

Okay, two weeks ago we're at the end of the season party for my daughter's Lacrosse team. Minding my own business eating BBQ and this 40 something guy comes up telling me he heard I'm pretty good tuning old cars. I've never seen him at any game and ask which one is his daughter.

After the small talk he proceeds to tell me about his 396 67 Chevelle and how it used to pull the front wheels off the ground 5-6 inches at red lights but now it won't and could I get it running right again? I told him I'm not that good!
Why do they all have that same story about how their stock, heavy, bias ply tire, 2.96 gear car pulled the front tires off the ground?

That's when duct tape and a strait jacket would come in handy.

Who TF cares how eco friendly it is? What the hell has this country come to anyway? You wanna talk about eco friendly get your eyes off musclecars and concentrate on ocean dumping or something really serious! You got me fired up with this one. :error:

Has anyone ever tried to put the riviera armrests in a 70-72 GS? It does look very comfortable and alot more appealing than the stubbie rests we are stuck with:beer

I have to agree with the previous posts. I'm constantly getting "Nice Chevelle" comments about my 70 Wildcat Conv. When they ask about the 454 Big Block, it blows their minds when I tell them its a 462 (.30 over 455BBB). I nosed and decked the car (made templates for BUICK holes, if next owner wants to put them back) before black paint, but left Wildcat emblems on the fenders, they can't figure it out, drives 'em crazy.

Some of my other rides get them also, 69 Marauder X-100, does not say Mercury anywhere on the body, just X-100 on front fenders and small Marauder in center of rear panel, nobody ever gets right.
My 59 Lincoln Continental Mark IV Town Sedan really gets them. Formal
roof, no breezway window and they tell me Mark IV came out in the early seventys and only two doors. I tell them it was a phototype. One guy with a 74 Mark IV even measured it, it was longer than his car, he walked away mad.
Thats why I like Buicks, Mercs, Lincolns etc.

Had the hood open on my Stage1 at a show and some guy tells his son,
see that GS has 455 horsepower as he points to my air cleaner decal.
Then he tells the kid that his Grandpas Riviera had 445 horsepower. I didn't even bother to correct him. :Dou:
