Code 75. They called it "Apple Red" in '75, at least. Common red color for most all GM cars of the era. Has a slight orange tint to it, especially under street (mercury vapor) lights.
Yea, there won't be any left! They never did hold up well when new (rust) and the parts that are available is almost laughable. Real fun little cars. I can't wait to get mine back!
Yeah, mine was a blast! Those Mirage parts are next to impossible to find, and thats why I was surprised when two of the cars showed up on ebay in the same week. I think the Monza is not as valued, cause people forgot about them, as did they the Skylarks. Everyone wants a Chevelle...... well, not everyone. Its wierd to think that those cars are over 20 years old! They were rust buckets too, so there are very few left! -Jon George, the Buick is not for sale.... finish the 20 projects you have in your yard.... your neighbors MUST hate you!
sigh... My first car was as 77 Monza. If I had known anything about cars at the time it would have been a nice ride... Instead I put a re-man aluminum engine back in it and it was just as big of a piece of smoking crap to drive before and after. If my wife would let me I'd buy the little red one for sale out of Michigan, fab up some new floor pans. (no-body sees them anyway) and drive it like I stole it. Pull the 305 and maybe put in a stroker 302 or even dig up a 283, just omething that would tach up. Even better drop in an 86-87 turbo 3.8 setup... (droool....) Put a really quiet exhaust system on it and install fresh 3.8 emblems on the sides. The mustangs wouldn't know what hit them til you let out and they heard the waste gate dump as they caught up..... :Brow: Ohh welll...
ditto, sigh Mostly fond memories..bought a 1975 Monza in 1976 with the 262 (every Chevy "expert" told me I didn't know what I was talking about ans that it really was a 265). Pulled that and put in a good used 300hp 350 out of a boneyard. Added hooker headers (god those things were something.. lots of slip joints and they still didn't fit), Edelbrock and holley and reworked the ignition. Still had the 13 inch whitewalls on it and a 2.73 gear. Tons of fun baiting Camaro's, mustangs and Vette's..would smoke the little 13's just standing on it up at any speed until about 50. People had no idea what it was or that it even had a V8. Pretty scarey handling above 100 or so, front end got real light and the brakes were marginal, but still one of the funnest cars I've ever owned. Put over 50K on it as it was my daily driver in college. always wanted to do another one...hmmm.
I learned to drive stick on a 75 Monza coupe. Dad had one for a daily commute to Milwaukee. 4 cyl 3 speed I think. Was fun when I was 16 but not sure how I would feel about it now. The Mirage was definitly not my fathers Monza. Larry
