Well I was on my way home tonight and was cutting through a nice neighborhood when I see a state trooper following me....He follows me until were almost out of the neighborhood and then finally turns on his lights to pull me over. Now I thought it was going to be the routine of lisence/registration and so on....but to my surprise he just says "nice car, what kind is it?"....I couldnt beleive it...and so we went on with the usual of "what kind of engine..." etc... Turns out he was restoring a 66 ford fairline I beleive, cant remember the exact model but something simliar to that. Very nice guy, Id like to get pulled over by more cops like him. Joe
I almost had a police story for you tonight. Luckily I saw three ways to turn off fast. Like Forrest says, "Thats all I got to say about that".
When I had my Maserati Ghibli I kind of got the quick flick of the lights and whaling or the siren. Then he shut it off, pulled up next to me and said not too nicely "Nice plates!". Oh, my plates back then were "COP TEZR" (cop teaser)
I was stopped like that once back in the late '80s by "Poncherello" when I was driving the GSX. I told him I was concerned he'd give me a fix-it ticket for a "no front plate" to which he replied "oh no, that's chickensh^t, I just wanted to see your car."
That happenned to me once too. It scared the crap out of me, but sure felt good to think my car was worth the cops trouble to pull me over. :Brow:
In New York we MUST have front plates, and they can't be covered with a clear lense. I keep a black "Riviera" plate in my trunk that I put over the front license plate at shows. Sometimes I forget to remove it, but have not gotten a ticket for it yet. :bglasses:
Here in Cali you need a front plate so THE MAN can use "photo-radar" and "photo-redlight." This is why I always drive around with my Richard Milhouse Nixon mask on - 'cuz they don't have "photo-Watergate-break-in" on the books yet.
A few weeks ago leaving a carshow in the N of the Netherlands: Cost me 65,- or US$ 78,- :error: p Driving an American car in Europe includes being pulled over for no reasons at least 3 times a week, most of the time just to admire the car ou: Police doesn't understand that the red indicators are also your brake lights......
Of the states where I've lived: Louisiana-no front plate Georgia-no front plate Illinois-front plate Florida-no front plate Texas-front plate
howdy Oklahoma ,Arkansas, Mississippi rear plates only Here in Ok. you can run a vintage Ok plate on the front with no problems. Mark
In NY a front license plate is required. The only exception is with "Vintage Plates" in which only one plate was used for that year. My 64 Skylark only has one plate as in 64/65 NY only used one plate on the back. I don't recall any other years in which only one plate was used in NY. Perhaps in the 30's and 40's there were others. Mark
Rear only in AZ. We have photo radar for speed. Mobile vans or fixed towers. Also fixed red light cameras too. Way to many people run red lights here. I believe we are #1 in the country for red light crashes. You have to be going 11 plus MPH to get a photo speed ticket. Really pretty fair if you ask me. John
I'm surrounded by 1 plate states! Kentucky=1 plate Indiana =1 S.Carolina=1 Ohio is 2 plates, like $85 if you get one of those"chickens**t" tickets!!
About 15 years ago I was followed home by a cop while driving my 1984 Mustang GT Turbo 'vert. When I got out of the car he asked me where I got the car, when I told him the name of the dealer he replied " that was my car." We talked for a while and he said he wished he hadn't sold it.
