It's been 2 years since the last post, any updates on your '66? I'd love to see what's been done to it.

  3. Thanks for the reminder. The car has sat for the past two years as seen above. Got a little sidetracked buying a house and working.....right now the plan is to get it out of storage in the spring and bring it to the new house to commence working on it again.

When that does happen, I'll post pics.

  4. Update- I haven't worked on the car in a little over two years. Had to buy a house with a garage to continue on with the project.

I had the body stored outside in the winter of 10/11 which produced several heavy snow storms. When I stored the body, I had 4X4 posts under the body to keep it elevated. The weight of the snow crushed both the inner and outer rockers.

Here's some photos of the car coming out of storage and heading to my house. Going to dive back into this thing over the winter and hopefully have it at the body shop for paint in the spring.

  6. Thanks. Spent 8 hours in the garage working on it today. Was good to see you as well. Glad to know you made it home OK. Here's some pictures from yesterday. PM me your email address and I send them to you if you want.

    Hey Paul,
congrats on getting back to work on the 66. What are you in need of for parts. I am finishing up with mine and looks like i have some extra parts kicking around. Once i get mine shot in paint you have to come down to for a beat ride in it.

  8. In case anyone's following this thread, I've learned a few valuable lessons:

    1. Don't leave a restored chassis in a dirt floor garage.
    2. If you do, you'll have to redo all the work you did before and then some

I've been busy on this thing over the winter and everything has taken 3 times the estimated time I had planned back in November. It's still elevated in the garage and the body is waiting to be married to the frame. The underside still needs to be painted. They're currently in primer after hours and hours of stripping and wire wheeling them. In hindsight, I really should have had the car blasted. But this is a garage/body off so it is what it is.

With the stripping of paint via wire wheels and razors some bondo was discovered and many of the problem areas on these 64-67 A body cars revealed themselves along the lower windshield channel, dash and lower quarters. I've had to source a bunch of sheetmetal through v8 and should be in good shape.

It also seems, things I thought I was going to leave alone (wheel well undercoating) turn into much larger aspects of the project. However it's all stripped out and it the messiest job I've ever done on a car.

Here's some pictures of the progress so far:

The underside looks fantastic; lotsa work there! What paint did you use?

Are you going to stay with the original colors for the exterior?

    Steve

  15. Yeah we moved to Canton.

Thanks Steve. The underside is Krylon semigloss #7777 in a rattle can. Went white that because its readily available. The firewall is a semi flat black that's close to the original according to some guys on a GTO site.

The car will be staying original colors. WA with a red pinstripe.

  16. Update:

The car was dropped off at fellow v8Buick member Joshua's shop a few weeks ago. Right now the plan is that it will be in his capable hands until the winter and hopefully come back to me painted the original silver with a black painted top.

Here are some photos of the day it left my house:
