OK Here's the proper way to do a real burnout... Get granny's car. Swap engine for one with much mo power. Weld up the 2.28 rear gears. Nail it from a standstill and hold 'er straight with no brakes til she gets traction at 80 mph, the top of 1st gear!

Exactly how much rubber does a burnout like that use?

Well, it went from almost new, to almost a slick in about a minute! I wouldnt ever do it again, not on cement, the tire was so torn up! This shot might not show it, but it isnt anywhere near a brand new tire anymore...

My first car was a 1989 honda civic that i would hold it to 6grand dump the clutch the rip her in to second then loose it to third. Or puter her in revers and wap the wheels on way then hammer it. i snaped a half shafted on night doing that. Then i have a 1991 GMC sonoma with a 350 and th350 that when the road it wet and i just put on a littel bit of brake i will sit there spin them at idel. I havent realy tryed any thing in the Regal yet. Last night i when to take it out and i fired it up and head a wird gussing noise. thought itwas pushing gas out of the carb so i kill get out and look but no gas so i walk around the car and notice a spray of tranny fluide on the floor and thought a first that a tranny line had came off so i got on the floor oil was pooring out of the tranny. not to sure whats rong with it now.

Is it much harder to do a burnout with a posi, is it hard to keep control of it?

yes, and yes...depending on the power output of the veeeeeeeeehicle

Yeah, much harder to keep control, when i race the big block at the track the rear starts going to the right, kinda fun, but when its your dad's car, kinda un nerving! Looks much cooler leaving 2 stripes instead of 1 though! He'res me on sunday holding my $75 check... 2nd place at the last LSPBC race.. Spun off the line  :3gears:

    Burnout!

Well, looks like we got all the info you need for a proper burnout here. The way I do it is roll through the water, put the trans in 2nd gear(manual valve body), hit the throttle when signaled, as soon as the engine hits the burnout rev limiter, shift to 3rd gear and count to three slowly, release the linelock(go back on the button to keep the rev limiter on) and let the car move forward to the line as close as I can before letting off to get stopped to stage. That's how you go through a $450. set of tires a year..LOL

Got to be careful though. When I first bought my buick I accidently did a monster burnout at an intersection!! I was trying to make a left at the light and figured I'd chirp the tires a bit.....well I got a little happy and gave it too much gas and ended up doing a donut in the middle of the intersection and ended up in the 7/11 parking lot across the street!! Just glad that there was plenty of room, no one in the way and no cops around. Pretty scary at that moment....but funny as hell to me now!

What an old thread, I just though I might bring it back up. Look at my avatar.

The tire that got traction got bald real quick because I had it overinflated :Dou: But I swapped it, so its all good.

About the donut, I attempted one, and it was unsucessful, I broke a steel belt in the tire (there was a pop), and I had a big bubble on the side of the tire, but I fixed that and leard my lesson.

Your on, but I think it'll turn out to be a tie, unless you have a posi. I'm going to get some old wheel, and just smoke it till it blows.

Every now and then I think of Smartins picture of when he had just changed to the posi rear and left two stripes on the ground. Was the car "braked", or just floored?

Hmm... I don't see a fat eleven coming out the back of my car when I change to two wheel traction, but who knows, maybe the lower gearing will be enough.

I did give it some brakes, but I wanted to get some smoke going. I could've floored it and gotten it to rip the tires, but not as good as I did with the brake help.

If ya need to hold the brakes - It's not a BUICK!

'71buickg.s. a dark and stormy night..

i needed to hold the brakes on my skylark, it sure looked like a buick to me :Do No: had to do the same thing with my dads we4, and his gn, then my turbo regal... so it aint a buick unless you have instant power? not even pushing the stall converter or spooling the turbo? I wonder how many real buicks are actually street legal then.. or is it that most buick guys are old and cheap and dont want to burn up the brakes AND the tires, and just go buy a line lock? hmm... thats what my dad is
