Sorry, but I just don't get it...??? I can't even consider it music. I will concede that it is an art form....but I just can't listen to it. My kids listen to some of it............Man I sound like an old guy. I think my Dad used to say stuff like that about Jimi Hendrix!

I'm 25 and I think RAP IS CRAP :af: ....I like to listen to some Ted Neugent, 80's cheese hair bands, heavy metal, 60's and 50's when Im cruising around town in my Skylark. Nothing beats listening to the oldies while driving an older car. Kinda makes you feel like your back in the 60's and 70's again :TU:

All I can say is that my wife and I watched all three hours of the CMA last night so you know where "some" of my musical taste is based. Would like to have watched it while being in a 'PURPLE HAZE :Brow:

I like many types of music.
From head banging heavy metal which was the music of choice during my teenage years to now in fact.
    Punk
    New wave / 80's
    Big band
    Rat pack
    Blues
    Etc.
    But Rap?, No.
    techno?/ Industrial? No.
The wife likes country and all that does for me is piss me off. :gt: (Hey, I'm a suburban
    midwest white boy!)
We have an agreement, I don't play Sabbath or Metallica when were together and she don't play country when we are together.
    Then life is good. :beer

    I listen to rap-crap all the time.........just not intentionally:af:
It seems like every where I go, somebody pulls up beside me with that CRAP playing full-blast.

Just listening to it second-hand at a redlight for a minute makes me want to :blast: somebody.

    I just don't get it.:Do No:

    Give me AC/DC any day.

    hip hop

It is a surprising fact that hip hop and rap sales are the largest among all musical sales.

I personally don't get into rap much, but most of my freinds dig it. But they don't own GS's either.

The biggest problem with the rap hip hop attitude I have, is the lazyness effect. The dudes rapping and fans who listen to them all want ALOT but don't want to work hard for anything.

Another surprising fact is that the rap artist themself (unless) your a superstar, are the least paid in the music groups. Something on the order of $.50 - $1.50 per CD sold. Which isn't that much considering you may only make 1 CD before your record label drops you.

So the moral of the story I think is teach your kids to become doctors. They will probably make alot more in the long run.

Britney spears only made 16 million last year. Well...only may not be a good word, but since she is the most popular person on the planet...16 million is not that much....Don't believe just read the latest Forbes magizine where they rate the richest 400 in America.

16 million for 40years straight won't even get you int the door.

looks like I'm the only one that likes it huh? lol. Prolly cause I'm one of the younger members... I'll be 21 in 9 days!!!!! WOOOHHOOO!

Anyway, ALOT of it is junk... a whole lot of it.... but there are defiantly some good rappers out there. The new wave of "southern rap" is pretty good. Surpisingly Eminem is actually a really good rapper, and has some pretty deep lyrics if you here the stuff they don't play on the radio.... but Jay-z/puff Daddy stuff is pure garbage... and the rap songs that just go on about how cool they are need to GO!
I do prefer other music tho, I listen to folk rock, heavy metal, modern rock, punk, classic rock, country, 80's, oldies, and I've even been known on occasion to be pumping some sinatra from the old buick...

Remember that Dylan was rapping in '65 with Subteranian Homestick Blues... lol

Somehow, I think Dylan would prefer to think of it as a mere coincidence. :Dou:

It's a secret vice of mine.

I really enjoy a lot of the old-school rap- Doug E. Fresh, Run DMC, etc. It was good before it got into the "beat your girl" "kill the cops" attitude. Rap used to be entirely spontaneous - just a couple of dudes in the street start letting the rhymes fly. It's an artform that I find amazing! Most good rap is done without instruments, or maybe just a drum set.

Very little after 1992 is any good, at least in my opinion.

I'm not too much for rap music these days. It's just like all the music coming out, it dosen't have any depth or meaning. Usually its just a bunch of kids screaming in a microphone or guys rhyming incomplete/incomprehensible sentences where the record company thinks they can make some money. Granted, there are a few musicians out there.

As far as the rap music goes, I feel Eminem and LL Cool J are the most talented and in rock/heavy metal I like Disturbed. I feel as though Metallica sold out since there Black album was released but, I LOVE there old/original music from the 80's. And, the only country I like is from Charlie Daniels and Hank Williams Jr.

For some reason, which I think comes from old age (26, LOL!), I listen to 80's music and some 90's. Mostly rock but, some rap. If you got a good/sick sense of humor, try listening to Too Short. He has some funny lyrics (I think anyways, LOL!). Also, LL Cool J would fit the bill of one of the "old school" rappers too but, I'm a hair band guy. So far I saw Kix, Tesla, and LA Guns in concert.

    I just like music.
I'm mostly into Metal (old and new), but also Classical, Oldies, some Jazz, and 80s Punk/New Wave. Basically I like everything but Country (though I like Bluegrass) and the newer Rap. Hmm, just about anything with an emphasis on the instruments.

I do like the older Rap - late 80s and early 90s Rap. It seemed they used their voices more like an instrument compared to today's Rap.

Quick aside: Frank Zappa sometimes did something that could be considered "Rap" in the same way as the Dylan song - and there is something in classical music that is similar.

    Rap influenced music I like;

    Red Hot Chili Peppers
    Bloodhound Gang
DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince (Parents Just Don't Understand)
    Digital Underground (The Humpty Dance)
    Limp Bizkit
    Disturbed (Down With The Sickness)

    And then there's the non-rap-influenced music I like;

    Joe Satriani
    Bush
    Stone Temple Pilots
    Alice In Chains
    Gary Hoey
(This would be a long list!)

    And the some-what off the beaten path music I like;

    Dread Zeppelin
    Eels (Novocaine For The Soul)
    Radiohead (Creep)
    Primus
    Southern Culture On The Skids

This is but a small sampling of my musical interests. Of course I like the older rock also. I don't care for Gansta rap at all!

I pretty much like music that makes me smile or kicks my tail!
