    I've been trying to send a perfect dash pad to France for a V8 member who needs it. But I can't find a cheap quote for the life of me. What do you guys use? Anyone in Europe getting a container shipped over anytime soon? :Do No: I need some help guys, im not about to give up. Thanks :TU:

    the package is:-19.5 inches wide
    -12.5 inches tall
    -68 inches long
    -40lbs max weight

    from zip 60126 to France 75015

    Rob, I really doubt that you will be able to ship a package that size for cheap (I would just see how much the cheapest sender is and compare them to the cost of shipping it to someone that has container ready for shipment). That is your best bet, and if it is expensive to ship it either way, just ask for more money or ask the buyer to pay for the shipping. On another note have you also thought about shipping insurance?

    I'd say you are looking at at least 100, and it would be a shame if it was damaged, dashboards are relatively fragile. My brother mailed me a medium sized globe (10 inches in diameter) from tallil airbase in iraq and it cost him like 51 dollars. France isn't quite that far, but a dash is an irregular shape.

    I had the plastic grill, (not the bumper), for my Riv shipped over to Lebanon.
    As fare as I remember, the first quote was US$ 600 :shock:
    I actually had to have the seller to cut it in two in order to reduce the bulky size. :ball: That got it down to $ 150.
    (This would of cause not be an option in your case).

    If the buyer can not find a container/shipment going his way, my suggestion is that he have his old pad redone locally, & you to sell to somebody in the US/Canada.

    Sorry mate.

    Im not paying the shipping cost, the buyer is. I've gotten quotes from $300-$500. Im going to insure it. The dash was packed really really well but I dont know what kind of crap it will have to go through. Any other thoughts? :Do No:

    Take my advise you have to put the dash pad in a wooden crate or it will get damaged been there done that.

    I second that!!! Don't send it unless in a wooden crate or it would be damaged, heck you can't send a part to one state with out the shipper scewing it up, AL.

    You could do the old "Return to sender" trick! Not sure if it would work for overseas though! Could you get in touch with an airline and see if they can do anything for you?

    Try to find a container destined for France. I know the Chicago area is probably not the best starting point, but people ship cars all the time to Europe and back here, so try to get a ride with one of them.

    What's a one-way ticket on an airplane cost now-a-days?
    Or I suppose they probably wouldn't let you do that for security reasons. :Do No:

    Rob,

    You had a good idea to share our pain on the forum !!! :beer

    I offer the following deal to anyone who plans to visit paris:

    $200 + Pick up at the airport + a diner in Paris in a good restaurant ! :)

    Given the relatively low weight, the airline may not charge if you travel light, but I understand all the burden to take it down to the check-in and pick up at the luggage arrival. I do not think you need a wooden box in this case.

    Now that I have got my NOS tail lights, I need the crackless dash that goes with it ! :laugh: :laugh:

    Yea, figured I'd keep trying Jean-Luc. No harm in trying. :) You need to have a nice dash, its key! :bglasses:

    CIT Poweraddict, help me

    How fast do you need it?
    It can probably get a ride in a container from LA to Denmark for less than 50$ + taxes and I can bring it to King of Europe streetrace in Chimay, Belgium in June, where you can come pick it up.

    Chicago -> LA
    LA -> Copenhagen, DK
    Copenhagen -> Me
    Me -> Chimay, Belgium
    Chimay -> You
    You -> Paris, France

    Long trip, only takes 4 months :Dou:

    Rob,

    If you can ship it to Phoenix Arizona, it can be loaded into a container heading for the Netherlands. If there's a container arriving before the first of May, I can bring the dashpad with me when I'm going down to Switzerland on May 6th, together with board members Riv71, BaCo and 75Riv, to attend the Zuchwil meeting.

    Jean-Luc can meet us in Luxembourg, or at the A4-A31 motorway junction, close to Metz.

    If the container is arriving later, I can bring the dash pad with me to the ARL meeting in Sanem, Luxembourg on July 1st and 2nd.

    Or I can cruise to Paris in my little Golf, running on LPG.
    That's a 1000 km round trip, so that's 100 liters, or 50 Euros in fuel costs.

    Yeah ! two options now ! Thanks, Peter and Erik.
    Regarding the lead time, I have been waiting for 2.5 years, so I can wait until next summer !!!

    I am prepared to go anywhere in Belgium, in Holland or Switzerland to pick it up.

    Now need to see with Rob where is the easiest way to ship to in the US:
    Phoenix or LA ?

    The easiest way, is the Phoenix way I reckon.
    I know the shipper of the containers, he's doing this every 2 or 3 months since 1996 and he has 1000's of happy customers in Europe.

    He's always there to load the containers and searchs for parts himself.
    And he loves old cars, so he's very careful not to damage precious parts when stowing them in the container.

    Meeting in Metz would be fun, and it's not all that far from Paris either.

    Or you can come up to the Netherlands to pick it up, and talk to John (JoKo) about the engine rebuild.

    Too bad I didn't know about this before Christmas. I flew L.A. > Chicago > Stockholm. I could have gotten it from Rob at the airport in Chicago, then taken it to Stockholm. My mom came from Brussels to Stockholm and could have taken it back to Brussels with her; then you could have picked it up there. :Do No:

    :rant: :Brow: :blast: :confused: Damned ! I go to Brussels where I have an office almost every week...At least we avoided your Mom flying with a Dash pad under her arm. She would have loved me ! :Brow:

    Next time.....

    Do you really believe that you're allowed to go on a plane with a 185 cm long dashpad as cabin luggage ?
    Maybe if you fly with Kazachstan Airlines or companies from Central Africa.... :laugh: :laugh:

    Anyway:

    If you choose the Phoenix way, contact Rick at 0031 15 257 39 68
    and ask him about details like shipping address in the USA, costs, and when the next container will be in Rotterdam.

    You let me know when I can pick it up, and we will work something out to get it to Paris.

    There's too much talking going on here, who cares that someone flew to Stockholm last December ? You need it to be transported now, not in the past.
