Another issue to look at, and I personally spoke to someone regarding this experience is foreclosing on a house due to the drop in value while retaining a high mortgage payment. This is evident in South Florida where I spoke to people who have done this. In my opinion, it isn't the right thing to do to just get rid of a house cause it dropped in value, with the knowing it will return and mostly providing a roof over his or her family. A house isn't a financial tool, it's shelter that provides stability in life. I think a lot of people watched "How to get rich fast" and it backfired with the use of their house's equity.

    John,

This isn't a political thread and in no way can Obama, or McCain reverse course. They're the ones who got us in this mess, along with Wall Street. We need to learn how to take care of ourselves, and each other than allowing Government to take all of our money and expecting something in return.

Anything but what's in there now, and McCain is a "deregulator" guy too. The choice is clear. And how the heck did Obama "get us into this mess?" Ha ha

    John,

Both of them are in the Senate, aren't they? Plus, look at the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac CEO's that are involved in Obama's economic policies. McCain is just as bad with lobbiests and special interests. Plus, both of them are in agreement in the manner our Government handled this economic bail-out. This is my $.02 and I'm done talking about politics as this is more important than who's in the White House.

Question still stands. No one answers anything here (or is it "hear" ??). Explain to me how someone who's only been a junior senator for a few years could get us into this huge financial mess. This is beyond laughable.

What is laughable is how so many people defend these people as though they are "patriots" They all should be disgraced, tarred and feathered, and thrown into the Potomac River.

None of you appear to know what a real conservative or Republican would stand for. It is not religion (at all!!!!!), and it does not involve gun rights. Ha ha ha. Look it up! And remember, the neocons are not conservatives! Wars are expensive, non-conservative.

Energy demands seem to be driving the local construction industry absolutely insane last year or two. Current refit to an existing nuclear plant with serious talk of a new 2nd unit. New LNG unloading/storage facility due on-line here in a couple months. Canada's largest oil refinery here with very serious talk of a second by the same owner.
Larger contractors tend to chase the mega-jobs which leaves a full plate of smaller medium commercial projects available. I've been saying no to more invitations this year than I can ever remember.....just too busy.
I have my own electrical business, commercial & small industrial only, no residential. I go to extremes to stay small as that seems to be where I'm happiest. I hire from local IBEW forces but it's been a real challenge getting men.
Local construction workforce averages a little over 50 years old. Few newcomers last 10 years.
