Anyone have any issues with a starter struggling to crank the engine when hot? I have 6* of initial timing, starter struggles to turn her over
Heat soaked starter can create high resistance. Poor grounding/bonding of both ground and power can add to resistance issues. If you can get voltage/amperage load readings at the starter.
At only 6 deg. initial it should crank like it has no compression, hot or cold. Either your starter is weak, or your cables and or your connections are dirty or loose. I'd start with your cables and connections
Are they side post? It’s common for side post to corrode in cable at battery. Positive side. You actually won’t see it .
I was wondering the same on vapor lock, I have a similar issue, no vapor return line hooked up. I'll be watching this thread.
Vapor lock has nothing to do with a starter struggling to crank a hot engine. You can get a won't start from vapor lock because the fuel literally boils out of the carburetor, but the starter cranks the engine fine.
You need new bolts but yes it will. But you may have an extra wire if you have a points distributor type wire harness.
I had this issue for a long time....chased my tail for weeks....turned out to be a loose engine ground strap.
