How much horsepower did the 1972 buick 350 4bbl have and also how much torque. Is there a way to just tinker with the motor and gain hp? Or does there need to be internal work done. Camshaft. Compression ratio etc. And did this motor have the same amount of power as the 1971 350. or are the 72s dogs?
1971 350 was 260hp/360 ft lbs 1972 was 175/270, but that was rated as net hp. figuring a 20% loss from gross hp, that figures out at about 220/340.
Both '71 and '72 engines had the same net rating and are essentially the same. Rating was 190net hp and 285 net lb. ft.
my mistake, i looked those up quickly. 1972 was 195 and 290. that's still lower than 1971 though, unless you're figuring for a heckuva loss from gross to net.
The difference was significant. Recall recalculating my 1966 260 hp into 1972 terms based on various criteria in an old magazine article, and came up with 190 hp as the result. Still tell people the car has 260 hp
yep. i figure if they don't know the difference between gross, net, and rear wheel, then they don't deserve to accuarately know how much power my car makes. 315hp and 410 ft lbs here.
My car has 260hp and 360ft/lbs of torque... even if it is gross! Then Chevy people get surprised when I pop the hood and they only see half of a carb
77 350 whats up fellas i have a 70 but my engine is out of a 77 lesabre does anyone have the numbers for that year motor (compression ratio)? appreciate it
Tell us how? Josh, What did you do to your 350 to get 450hp out of it? I thought I was doing well with 375hp from my mine. Please share, David
Those that have more than 350hp from their 350's... What did you do to the rods? Is everything holding up well? I'd like to do some stuff to my 350 unless I find a good, running, cheap 455 when I actually have some money. Just seeing what all is done.
I'm ported and polished to the max the whole way from intake to headers, including the heads, rods i polished the sides, comp. cam, postons S-divider, edlebrock 650, high volume oil pump, bored 30 over, kenny bell forged pistons msd distributer modual, coil, and box. heads decked, I'm probably pushing over 10:1 compression, electric fan no robing power with that pully mounted fan,
Rods Eric, My rods are from a 74 engine with ARP bolts and polished beams. Running 10.75cr, forged pistons, ported big valve heads,GS118 cam, super comp. headers, TA Stg. 1 intake and a 800cfm q-jet. David
Thanks guys... I don't think I will have the 350 built to either extent (at least not for this car) but you never know... I was wondering about the durability of the stock bolt setup on the rods... glad to see some people building up their 350's
Josh, What kind of 1/4 times do you do? a poston s/divider with a 650cfm carb sounds like your chokin that engine. Was it on a Dyno?
well kenny i dyno'ed it on the computer and it says im pushing 450 but it couldn't calculate the intake ported and the headers ported at the flanges, and there were other factors that i wasn't able to plug into the dyno, so if i were able to plug that stuff in it should say i have more, i didn't get to run at that track yet, but i put it through the dyno simulater and when i hit the nos, says i should be in the 11's
Josh, Get that sucker to the track! Talk is cheap time slips tell all. I'm not dissin you at all, I've just learned that it's easier said then d one, Untill you get the truth ,1/4 mile time slip, you'll never know. I've raced guys on the street that said somebody told them they had over 600 HP yet they couldn't beat my 350 Skylark in the 1/4.
