I always laugh when media/people say drive less. I work for a great company however the ONLY downfall is that I'm on a construction site and the location changes when a new job starts. Since October of '05, I've been driving 65 miles one way to work. When the weekend comes, I don't even want to get in a car if I don't absolutely have to so I conserve gas because of that reason. But, the gas prices the way they are truly affect those who drive significant miles a day for work or businesses who have to transport product/services to and/or from their business. They then have to choose, do I pass the added costs on to my customers or try to stay lower to keep competitive. It's a no win situation. I spend so much money on fuel each month it makes me sick but what are my options, quit my job and find one closer to home? It's frustrating :spank:

I've wondered if not getting fuel on certain 'gas out' days works? It was supposed to happen on May 15th and instead of the prices going down, they went up 50 cents/gallon...........

Joy - my wife is a visiting nurse, i.e., she drives to people's houses to make house calls.

While she is given a a certain amount per mile by the Co. she works for, it has only gone up 5 cents in the last 2 years !!!

In August of last year we bought her a new car - last week it was in for its 30,000 mile service and to make matters worse, its a turbo/intercooled car that drinks 93 octane !! We were thinking :3gears:  ... but are now feeling like :spank:

I know how you guys feel, it stinks. My company mileage used to be 37 cents and I asked them to raise it last year. Got raised to 48.5 cents , which REALLY helps. My mileage gets paid from job site to job site, not a ton of money but it does help with the $300-350/month in gas plus the endless oil changes/tire rotations/chipped windshields/paint chips. Tell her we're part of the 30k /year club. Mine has 60k and will be 2 years old in June....

I buy fuel at the same place for all four of my vehicles and have become freindly with the owners who run it. They says they pay $1.45-1.55 per gallon of gas and the rest are taxes. County taxes, city taxes, excise tax, shipping tax, federal tax and on and on. They say that there are lines and lines of taxes. I am going to see if they will let me have a copy of one of their invoices and I will post it.

You can't compare an oversized vehicle that's designed to be driven where there are no roads to historic automobiles that were, and are still practical. How many antique cars do you see climbing mountain trails in the mud?

But all day long in suburbia there are people driving oversized 4 wheel drive vehicles (Excursions, Hummers, etc.) designed for off road use to work and to the grocery store. 90% of these people wouldn't know how to 4 wheel if their life depended on it! They roll them over b/c they have an unfit vehicle that was marketed to them as a family station wagon b/c station wagons are no longer "cool".....and neither are minivans. That's what I meant by "no practical purpose"......unless you live in the middle of nowhere where the roads don't get plowed in the winter, there really is no practical reason to be driving these things on paved roads that are really meant for cars.

You can't see around one parked next to you, or through one standing in front of you. The bright headlights being so high up blind you when you are in front of one at a traffic light. Or coming at you. If that ain't IMPRACTICAL, then I don't know what is. I'll admit it, I hate the things!

Yards......so be it......I find it VERY offensive when I am forced to drive a small crap car b/c gas costs so much and my wife drives 25 miles to work each day, and all I see on the road around here are huge monster SUV's that I know get at least half the mileage her car gets. If there were less of those things on the road, I seriously doubt that our national oil consumption would be so high. Bigger tires take more oil to manufacture as well.

We used to take the Riv to Atlantic City in the past, now with the high cost of fuel that's no longer possible.....and I'm pi55ed!

Thank You.......that's what I've been saying all along! :beer

Something to make you guys smile....

Last week myfriend went to gas up. He thought something didn't quite look right. Apon closer inspection he noticed the gas was priced at .28 instead of 2.80. All he was able to pump was a few gallons to top off. But he then returned home grabbed his wife's car , fiiled that up along w/ several gas cans and called his parents and friends on the way back. When he returned the lot was full and he had to wait for several cars to fill up. Apparently others were now "in the know" and were incredibly giddy at their good fortune. People were explaining to one man why he should pay w/ credit and not $ inside so not to have the worker notice 15 gal for 5$ While he was pumping the lines mysteriously wound out the lot and down the street.
I don't know how long it lasted, but would have liked to enjoy early 70's pricing for once......

    here is my answer

all suv trucks must be made with hybrid desiel

give incentives and better prices for hybrid gas cars

start to manufacture high performance desiel cars with hybrid systems

Make e85 more availiable throughout the country

more incentives for bio desiel for the home and cars--also get the word out
and have the factory produce the cars that run on veggie oil

do away with gas lawn mower engines---use bottled propane

use of more hybrid buses throught the country

BRING BACK SUNOCO 260 FOR THE BUICKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:pp :pp :pp :beer :beer :beer :beer :bglasses: :bglasses: :bglasses: :bglasses:   :blast: :blast:

tlivingd BIG BLOCK, THE ANTI PRIUS

Most hybrids now are actually designed as performance hybrids not fuel efficent hybrids. the honda accord, and camry hybrid are actually using the electric motor to boost performance not economy. their milage isn't that great in comparason to their conventional counter part. for those of us who live in the country or have long distances to drive where it's not stop and go. you will see very little change in economy with a hybrid unless your go with an economy hybrid such as the prius or the insight.

however the VW Jetta turbo diesel gets 45mpg and it's NOT a hybrid. and it's better milage than the prius and dosen't have quite the sticker shock either.

oh and there have been some people running bio diesel however the state and city groups are putting the kibosh on those because they can't tax the fuel because you make it yourself.. stupid tax man.

I agree, the Accord I believe actually has a 6 cylinder in it so its obvious that its performance not economy.

No, but it is true that I absolutely love driving my Yukon (13mpg). Filling a $90 tank is worth it to me. I'm starting to drive less, bike more.

It's really getting to the point I can no longer afford to drive my pride and joy. Case and point........today I was fixing the a/c on one of my other vehicles and needed an "O" ring. I had to take the Riv b/c the wife had the other car at work. I used approx. 4 gallons of gas that at $3 a gallon cost $12.........just to get a stinking .59 cent "O" ring! :moonu:

Hey, we could say this about alot of things. That's why people combine trips. Personally, I enjoy driving my Skylark so much I don't mine paying the pump price. Sure I would rather pay less, but I learned to stop caring about gas prices and concentrate on expanding my ebay business (an area where I actually have control.)

    THANK YOU!

Let's ask ourselves: Who makes more from a gallon of gas- the oil companies, or the government?

If the government really gave a crap about gas prices, they would eliminate gas taxes. Get spending under control, then we would not be slaves to the government. Whine all you want about the ExxonMobil's profits, but they aren't anywhere NEAR the government's profits.

Today is May 25th - somewhere around Tax Freedom Day, isn't it? Or is that now in June?
