http://mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=SC0511-107364 Man, I can't believe how bad this thing has been passed around. Poor ole girl, If nobody want's it, I'll take it.:ball:
Now you know how the rest of your old cars feel. p Unfortunately, a lot of the old musclecars have become commodities or something to show off with by persons with big egos. That's what I like about the pure stock/FAST racing. The cars are being used for what they were built for.
Most of these guys just buy the car and then stick it in their collection. It's like watching little kids pull out a shoebox and swap baseball cards with their friends. Someday one of these guys will actually drive a car and learn to truly appreciate them.
I believe a classic dealership out of Illinois has it consigned with Mecum, and they are the third owner since we sold, so if it sells at this auction, the new owner will be the fourth since we sold.Pretty sad, the car has had as many owners in the last 3 years as it had in the previous 38 years. The picture of the trunk kinda cracks me up, as I remember laying in there for hours doing bodywork to the trunk floor and inner wheel houses.:eek2:
Actually its a car dealer about 10 miles from our shop.We work on his classic cars all the time. He,s a really nice guy,and has quality cars.He bought a 67 GTO that my brother and i restored. He has had alot of really nice stuff.Eventually this car will be bought, and like alot of these cars will disappear.I tried to find my 70 TA last year, and it has completely fallen off the map.I would say it would be doubtful that it will be seen drag racing anytime soon.
Perhaps even sadder than how many times this car has changed hands in the last few years is the fact that my T-37 still sits unfinished. I started building mine around the same time Tom was building the silver one. It still sits languishing in the downstairs garage with no drivetrain or interior.
After not seeing any T 37s here for a long time I see these and now a friend locally is restoring a Lucene blue T 37 with the factory wing, white strips etc.
Strange.......... the listing say's the car is scheduled for 2:40pm this afternoon, which it obviously didn't go across the block at that time, but the cars lot # is S118, the S denotes Saturday. If the car was to go through today it would be a F118o No:
Hello Tom, You probably don't remember me, but as nice as that Pontiac is, the car from your past I really wanted was that awesome silver '70 OLDS 442!! what a sweet machine that was!! I think back and that was such a steal!! anyways, hope all is well. You should post a pic of that car so I can make it my screen-saver for awhile! I'm a Buick guy all the way- but secretly lust after that 1970 OLDS 442- is that wrong?? o No: Jerry
Hi Jerry, actually, the Olds was a 72. Unfortunately I had a computer crash and lost every picture I ever had of that car. I have no idea where it is today, possibly may have gone to Virginia by way of Auction I've heard. The 66 442 I have now came from the same guy that owned the silver 72 prior to me and Darrell Detwiler. If I was rich, I would still own every car I've built :ball:
From the emails I have gotten propoting the event that 5 in a row was intentional. Many if not all of them are from the estate of the same collector.
