help. Installed MSD distributor now oil light is on and loud knock

    Doc, you're right. I think the timing mark on the balancer is messed up.

    I did the mod on the vacuum advance and the only time it doesn't ping is on 9*. What's really funny is that I had the distributor timed down to 5* initial at one point and the car ran fine but a little underpowered. It even ran on 0* although very rough.

    So just for the record, I'm using the blue and light silver springs and the distributor is timed on my light at 9*. Anything over and the pinging starts.

    Larry is right on,,, manifold vacume only is the best way to go as a source for the vac advance......if you check the actual source most carbs have a ''port'' that will either go to the venturi area for delayed reaction, or to the bottom of the base plate for direct action.... or some cars back in the 50s and early 60s had an intake manifold source WITHOUT a vacume canister being envolved...... open the throttle and you get instant reaction.
