    Hey Matt,

How have you been? Glad to hear you've got the bittersweet mist Stage going under the knife. Can't wait to see it done. How far along are you? Got any pics to post? I know it's in capable hands, but that's one I really wish I kept.

I sold this car to Matt. It sat at my shop for almost 20 years. I thought I would clarify some issues. The ON rear is not rebuilt. I purchased it in the late 80's early 90's. It was very clean inside but the housing was rusted. I just blasted and primed it with DP90 and slide it under my 72BB. It works great. I would however caution anyone who ends up with it to have it checked out before thrashing on it. I had a 3.42 8.2" that I spun all the teeth off the spider gears because the cones were worn into the side of the case and needed to be rebuilt. It is too rare a piece to thrash on before making sure everything is right. I am not saying there is anything wrong with it, just to error on the side of caution.
The car was Wayne Roberts documented. It is a KK and 189 code car. Tag matches Wayne's info. Wayne's info indicates that it was "sold". A friend that worked in dealerships for 30 years seems to think it would have been pre sold. No dealer would order a car in that combo without a deposit or full payment upfront. I don't think the dealer mis ordered or repainted the car. So, the color change happened after that. I know what happend. I will let everyone have a chance to theorize before I tell. You need to ask how and why the color change occured. I will say that the tags are not the issue, they are untouched.

Thanks , Bob. I spoke to ytou about this car before Matt bought it. I really wish I had the room as it would be here in St Louis. SO all that has to be done is ask? Ok I am asking what is the secret? I am guessing that someone decided that would be a nice color combination or matched their teams colors or something like that ? Am I close?

No secret. I do not know why they ordered the car that color combo.
I will say the car was repainted out of necessity. I guess they figured if it has to be repainted, might as well change the color. Now, why did it need to be repainted?

One more guess and I will let you know.

Stolen? Re-built insurance total? Hail? Acid rain? Global warming?

I give up - why did it need to be repainted?:Do No:

Oh, I see. Probably no such thing as an original paint Aqua Mist car, then.. I had Suburban once that had peel paint issues.

Ok, here it is. I guess I have an unfair advantage because I got to study it for 20 years and yall just saw pictures.
As far as I can tell the car must have been heavily damaged in the rear early in its life. Either hit high or tree damage, because the frame does not appear damaged other than the usually idiot wrapping a chain around the rear cross member. The car was clipped sometime early in its life. The clip was gold and white. I guess they figured it would look better gold than repainting it Aqua so they painted the whole car. It is cut across the rear floor and the windshield posts. Don't feel bad, it took me awhile to figure it out to.

Yeah, I never knew that. All the clip info is new to me....thats the first that Ive heard that. The frame looks excellent, so I never wouldve thought that itd been clipped.

It didnt get anywhere close to my reserve, so Ill just keep it and that certainly doesnt bother me. I can use the rearend anyways. Thanks for everyones interest and for the kind words.

Donny, I pulled your car out to start on it and decided that I would just leave it in storage for awhile longer. This black car really deserves to be done correctly, so Im going to focus on it and then your car will be next. Its hectic trying to decide which one to do first. :TU:

    Single Stage Stage 1?

not that are worth showing :) I'll post progress pics though. I took the hood apart yesterday and got it ready to sand blast. I had to buy an "ON" rearend for it, but everything else is original. Its a bit rough, but it has the original engine that is standard bore along with its original transmission. I had bought a 68 transmission for it from wheelz because I didnt think the original one would clean up, but its amazing what sand blasting will do for a transmission. The original trans looks new now and was just rebuilt. Get this, its an M20.....:Do No: I talked to marco about it and sent him some pics of the transmission. Our conclusion was that since it was such an early build then they just threw an M20 in there. Your guess is as good as mine. The original engine isnt strange though, just an SS block with the con vin in the correct spot.

I restore cars for a living and rarely use sand because it it warps and distorts metal.
Most parts should be glass beaded like soft aluminimum parts like Muncie cases.
Body panels should use soda or plastic media.
    Be careful with sand
