Step back a second and note the existence of vinyl top trim along with a supposedly non vinyl top KK trim tag plus a non recommended 189 interior in combo with K code exterior paint. I need to contemplate further how to reconcile these facts.

There is evidence of the K paint in front of the doors. So this would mean someone changed a factory KK car later to say a code 53 paint and added a vinyl top perhaps to better match the interior. Could be but I would not have anticipated such a change.

I don't know the later ones very well, is that the correct rivets for the VIN tag?

I'm intriged by this car, i definately don't need another one, but it actually looks pretty solid (by Iowa standards).

What's anyone's guess on what it will bring? That is a super crazy color combo. Would most likely be butt ugly. But I like it...:bla:

Cowl tag rivets appear correct. I will have to step back and think about the VIN tag attachment. I believe this car may belong to a board member who I know to be an honest person.

Trim tag rivets are correct. Code 34/34 is aqua mist upper and lower. Does the Z in front of the 189 mean non-recommended color interior?

I was just puzzling over that very thing.

No telling what it would sell for but it does have a full tank of gas:laugh:

Kidding aside it has the BB steering shaft in it along with original looking BB frame mounts. I'd pay 500 for it but that won't win it.

    Looks like a major project.

Well if a guy had some Nos fenders and inners, a BBB and a th400 a GS hood grille and bmpers maybe it would not be too hard to get this one done but it will not ever be a matching number car. If as I think it sells for a coupe thousand dollars it might seem like a deal but I know there are some non matching number stage cars out there for less than what it would cost to do this. Even though I have all those parts and more I cannot justify buying itand adding another project to my collection of projects.

I don't see any aqua on the roof and they look like factory unfinished quarter panel seams used on vinyl cars. :Do No:

I see the pic you are talking about. seam looks unfinished, no aqua where the paint is peeled up.....

The trim tag and the VIN tag rivets are correct. The rosette VIN rivets are put in from the bottom up. It is obviously an acqua mist car. The roof may have been primed or prepped before the vinyl top was installed. This car is not worth enough to put it back together properly.

Considering what I now know about who owns the car and the prior owner, both respected Board members, it appears the car is legit. There was a color and roof change after it left the factory as a KK paint code car. I would not cut the price too close. Core 70 stage 1 cars command some real Franklin bothers even when they need a complete redo.

I almost bought this car over a year ago.
I eventually passed, later board member Matt bought it.
It is a real GS Stage 1.
Yes it is a legit Aqua Mist car with Burnished Saddle interior.

    Single Stage Stage 1?

Hey guys, this is my car. I appreciate Jim and the others stating that it is an honest deal from an honest guy. I have 9 stage 1 cars right now, 6 gs455s, 5 gs350s, and somewhere around 10 skylarks. I have started restoring them one at a time, but I decided to sell this one due to the fact that Im not going to be able to restore it for probably a few years. Im currently working on Donny's old 71 stage 1 and am sanding down Jim Lore's old 71 to paint. I dont forsee me starting this aqua mist car for a long time since my triple black 70 4speed will be next in line to restore. From what Ive been told, the "Z" on the cowl tag represents an unrecommended color interior. Anyways, thats why Im selling it and its the first stage 1 that Ive ever sold. I dont know what itll bring, but we will see. Thanks everyone.

    Single Stage Stage 1?

After talking to Bob Lorenz (the guy I bought it from), we seem to think that it traded dealers a few times before it sold.....maybe ordered the interior color by accident or something. My theory on it was a dealership painted it to match the interior. The top is not a vinyl top either.....there is no sign of one ever being there. It was painted a two tone gold and white and the two colors were split by the vinyl top molding. Again, thats just what I think happened. I'll be glad to show more pics or whatever you want.

Dont forget that it has the original "ON" rear that is in great shape. I dont know if it was rebuilt, but it appears to have been. I know its been out of the car before and it has been painted black. It looks like it is in good shape. I can spin one wheel and the other one spins in the same direction.

Tach & gauges were options, not part of the A1 package.
