GS Poster anyone?

Here is the latest version, as you can see I removed the tri-shield to avoid any GM/Buick copyright issues :(

I removed the text below each model and replaced it with copies of the actual emblems that were on the car (correct me if any are wrong please). What I tried to do was have each models emblem so if a coupe had a GS 350 and a GS455 and Stage 1 I put those emblems below. I will edit and straighten out the text and emblems on the final version.

I also added the production stats to the right side for each year.

    1. Should I remove the production stats?
    2. Should I remove the multiple emblems under some of the models and just have GS?

    Philip,

I can see if I can fit a '73 on there but I do not want to crowd the poster too much or shrink the size of the cars too much. An ideal thing would be to have '73,74 & '75 GS's along the bottom.

    Alan,

I will see how that shot looks... You may have too much front end lift:Dou: Do you have a shot like that sitting still?

    Everyone,
I still need lots of photos as you can see....

I think the stats are cool. Only thing is on the emblems maybe just use one under each car, for example where your '68 coupe is just have the gs350 if thats what it is ,just to avoid crowding . Otherwise Looks great to me. Also i'll send you some more "authorized" photo's this evening, for some blank spots you have.

The problem is that I only want to show one car for each version and the GS350 used the same body as the GS455. Should I just show "GS" or should I go back to the text like the poster in my first post? Suggestions?

I need to stick with "authorized" photos for the print..

    Mike,

I've been watching this endeaveor with interest. Being in the printing business, I am evaluating the progress. (sorry) I have personally been thinking about producing many different things to offer on this board. One of which is a poster similar in content to you are producing.
My first observation is the the quality of the images vs the reproduction size you are entertaining. I have other issues that may present a production and or quality problem. If I may, since I have access to professionals and equipment, please let me and my entourage help you create a quality piece we can all enjoy and be proud of.
Also, I noticed someone mentioned framing. At the size you are considering, the framing could be hundreds of dollars. How about offering a 11 x 17 size that can be more space friendly and cost effective to frame. I would guess that you would be able to sell more at that size for those 2 reasons. I can also produce the larger size as one-offs on a ink-jet large format output.
I do not want to step in on you plans. But if I can help by utilizing the resources available, please let me know. Please call me with your thoughts.

PS - On this Wednesday at 5:00 eastern time, give James Weinman a call and he will give you an evaluation on a past project.

    Mike,

Thanks for your input :TU: I am only a regular guy with a PC trying to come up with something that I would like to have for myself and thought others may be interested in.

Not being in the printing business myself the only thing I really know is that the quatlity of the images used will reflect on the quality of the final print and the larger you go the better the print quality needs to be. I have made a few test prints on 11x17 with a laser printer and they look very good so far. I have also looked into the larger prints and they would be quite expensive to make and ship so you are correct in saying that 11x17 may be the best option.

At some point I may find out that I cannot pull this thing off and have to throw in the towel or just let a professional (you :TU: ) come up with something that works.

Right now I am just having fun with this project and I would never offer anything that does not meet my picky standards.

    Mike Trom,
The poster looks great. If you do end up needing some help, look no further than Mike Norman. He and his crew do amazing work, and will no doubt be able to meet and probably exceed your picky standards! I have some of their work, and the quality is unreal. :TU:

    Mike Norman,
I don't know what you are up to this time, but Wednesday will not get here soon enough!
BTW - He still needs a 72 GS, and your Flame Orange car would be perfect and one that everyone wants to see... :kodak:

Echoing what Mike Norman is getting at above... What you have now may print fine @ 11x17, but really fall apart as you go bigger. Though I have since moved on, I spent ten years in the large format graphics output world. Trust Mike and I, to do it "right" takes some real knowledge of the process. I'm happy to give advice if you need it. I know more about printing than cars at this point in my life, so I'm happy to give a little back to the kind Buick folks on v8buick who have been so giving with their knowledge.

Mike T: based on this I am going to stand down, sending any more photos until the details are worked out. Mostly based on the dpi of those are not what I would like at this size of poster.

Mike N. If Wed is what i think it is , it will give me a good idea of whats needed for this project.

Good point on the size. I recently framed one of the stage 1 dealer posters that was VERY Nice. But, none of the local framing places had a standard 20x24 frame. The cost is 3-4x a standard stock item. Long as its a typical size ( poster 24x36) ext .. then it's all good.

    DL,
I believe you have a Nikon D50. That said, I nominate YOU to take ALL photos for any and all photographic needs that arise for this board. The lens and resolution quality is phenomenal. I can make a 40" print from one of your shots.

I have been looking for a good deal on a D80 myself.

my wife complains of that about me too :Dou:

Hey - at least the front wheels were on the ground in that shot (I have a much better quality file of that pic). I'll see what else I have ... I held off sending in a picture giving someone else a chance but hey .. of course I'd like to see my 15 year project a part of this :kodak:

... and lastly, If you're doing emblems I'd LOVE to see the '69 GS trunk-key cover emblem a part of it. I may be biased, but I think thats the BEST GS Emblem ever made

Ok, so the print size is down to 11x17 now and that will lower the cost and improve the quality. This project may never get done since I have not received enough photos yet to complete it anyway.

I will have some test prints made on 11x17 to see how it looks so far. If the quality is not good enough I will shelve the idea leave it to the professionals to get it done.

Since this is going to be such a small run of posters I did not think any printing buisiness would want to bother with designing/printing this type of poster.

I would still like people to send me the highest quatlity photos that they have so that we can attempt to fill in the missing cars.

How much? Any ETA on availability?
    P.S.
Watch your cropping under that Black and gold one.

Availability will be determined by how long it takes to get a quality photo of each model.

Are you talking about the front of the '71 GSX? That black is the front spoiler like the 70 GSX, not bad cropping  .
