You could say it was the underside. I took the original hood I made and corrected the flaws I saw in it. I sprayed the top (outside) with black gel coat and then laid fiberglass on top of that. When I was done, I pulled the fiberglass (and black gelcoat) off. So now you have a reverse image of the hood. You water sand and buff the gel coat to a super shine, put mold release wax on it and then shoot a different color gel coat on add fiberglass and let it dry. Now when you pull that off, your back to a good hood. Shiny on top, a little rougher on the bottom:TU: If you didn't see my write up on how it's made, it's here http://www.justanothertoy.com/gshood.htm It may make it easier to understand.

All I'd need would be a reasonably good hood (I guess I could use an old fiberglass one) and an idea of what would be popular as far as what to incorporate in the hood?

Is the 68 hood interchangable with a 69?

Fit-wise, yes. 68/69 Special/SKYLARK/sportwagon hoods are identical. 68 GS hood is a Sky hood without the center chrome, and a fake "scoop" back by the cowl area. 69 GS hood was the first prodution dual scoop "fresh air" intake system for the GS - it is a one-year only hood with scoops and grill different from any other year.

Well, got the PVA sprayed on and then a good coat of surfacing primer. Time to lay up the glass, should be popping the hood out Tuesday :TU:

Nice job, did you have time to measure up the clearance gain with this hood?

I finished the major lay up this weekend. Here you can see the first layer of glass down followed by coremat (the whiter stuff) and then another layer of glass. I'll put the perimeter bracing in today and recess the vertical section at the cowl. Pop the whole thing out of the mold Tuesday evening after work. My folks are out from Florida this week so I won't get the hood mounted until Monday. Then I'll get accurate measurments on carb clearance.

Well, the second hood is out of the mold :) Came out pretty good, just a little trimming to do and then I'll weigh it, mount it and get some clearance measurements. It already feels lighter than the first but still strong.

when you get measurements could you get one from the valve cover to the hood?

This just fits under the GS Fiberglass hood, the airhorn of the carb are touching the inside of the hood.
Still have to install the Cloverleaf spacer and when not racing an aircleaner would be nice.

So curious how much clearance your hood will have then the stock GS fiberglass one.

I still have alot of clean up the do, changing out some parts that are getting the little surface rust look, cleaning them up or changing them out with fresh parts,

Here the GS tucked away for the winter, I removed the grill cause my wife accidently leaned on it and it cracked at two places.
Need to fix that, and put it back in or leave it like it is now.

I'll have measurements by next weekend. Need to have the hood ready, I'm putting on my 1" spacer and then going out to the track the weekend after that.
