Sweet looking hood, although looking at the build-up pics makes my skin crawl. All those itchy glass fibers brings back bad memories of sanding that crud.
It's just a matter of having a good hood to start with and coming up with a design Is the 68 and 69 hood the same?
Amen Brother :TU: It's not bad at this point, it's doing the final sanding of the edges, no matter how well you cover up after teh shower, you're itching. I heard if you cover with baby powder real good it helps a little....
Start out with a cold shower first. It's supposed to close the pores and keep the glass from going further in. I used to take tape and dab the sticky side against bare skin surfaces to remove as much as possible before showering. Did it help? o No: I don't know. I did have a leather jacket that never got worn due to the fact that it had a silk inner-lining that let you know you still had glass in your skin.
Very Nice looking hood, and its an orginal piece for sure! To bad I need more clearance for my racecar enginesetup, otherwise I sure would have chosen this one! :TU: Greetz Robert
I'm running the TA SP2A intake, and I still need to get a 2 inch Cloverleaf spacer under the carb. I can't right now untill I get the right hood. Without the 2inch spacer the Airhorns of the carb are touching the Fiberglass GS Hood I have on it now. Here a couple of pics of the engine, here still shown is the normal waterpump. This was used on the dyno, cause the Meziere unit wasn't here on time. There is an Meziere electric waterpump on it now.
Well, I'll finish laying up the new mold today and then I can lay up another hood. I'm going to put a 1" spacer on my SP1 and see how much clearance still remains.
I believe they are Moroso Wire Loom Kits, you can get them from Jegs or Summit http://www.jegs.com/p/Moroso/Moroso-Wire-Loom-Kits/748807/10002/-1
Ok if not I, someone else for sure will have the same questions. If you can measure it up how much clearance there is, that will be great tnx. I'm in the middle of buying a used hood from another boardmember, but let me know how much clearance you have with your hood anyway. Cause I have another friend who is building up his car, and he will be need such a hood also in a month or 2. :beers2:
The new mold will be completed tomorrow, the plug pulled out Sunday and I'll start final mold touch up and preps. Hopefully be building the next hood within a week or so. That won't take nearly as long as the mold :beers2: I want to race again while the weather's so nice. Went out yesterday with a friend getting his license in an ex-pro stock Olds Great day!
Well, I finished laying up the mold yesterday, today I trimmed it and popped it off of the plug. Only thing left to do is water sand it and buff it to a high shine and then it's ready for mold release wax. :TU:
Yeah, it's not bad, but you an see some dry spots where the PVA went on a little dry. The better the mold is to start the better the hood will be and then the hood should require very little prep prior to painting.
Getting closer to laying up the next hood. Sanding the new mold with 2000 grit sandpaper is like using a wet paper towel  I completed the sanding and then buffed it out. Now I just have to figure material cost, that will give me an idea of a cost per hood. I also still have to put about 5 coats of mold release wax on the mold. Once this next hood is out, I'm sure it'll be good as is, the lift off hood will be available. Then I drag the steel hood back in and continue on the underside mold that will incorporate the hinge and latch mounts. When I figure out a price, I probably should post it in the for sale section. for now I post here just so I can share what I'm working on.
Its a little hard to see, are we looking at the underside of the hood? On the pictures it look really glossy.
