It happened to two of my mother's cats with the same neighbor, but two different cars. One lost his tail and the other had a good gash in the side, but both survived.

neighbors had a good sized racoon crawl up under the hood of a saab. I have no idea how it didn't get it by any of the moving parts. took about 4 hours to get it out after waiting 2 hrs for it to leave on its own.
