The irony is that originally the UP decided that conversion to oil was "not viable", but 4014 is an oil burner. The primary reason for this is that coal leaves cinders and sparks, oil does not; UP's experiance with the 844 was that too many fires were started along the right-of-way, and it, 3985, and the 4014 are now all oil-burners.
