It's time to rebuild the rearend on my '71 GS after 224,000 miles. It's a GM 10 bolt 8.5" BOP rearend. I'm at about 500 HP, and will primarily drive on the street and track. I'm looking for better-than-stock performance gears, diff, axles, etc.

Any suggestions on where to source these parts?
    Thanks

What gears do you have now, I ran stk axles way into the very 11s before i started having issues with them not living

You can buy everything right out of a Sumitt or Jegs catalog. I would first get in touch with Monzaz here on V8. He might be able to save you some money. This is his website,

3.08 right now. With a new Tremec 6 speed I'd like to go to 3.73

JD will be cheaper and will include premium Timken bearings

TexasT Texas, where are you from

Monzaz does good work and Brian Trick also does good work.
Might consider going to 30 spline axles and such "while you are there".

I would do a good set of gears, like the Motive Performance black/orange box. Not the economy black/blue box,or any of the eBay gears. The Detroit Tru Trac is a nice unit. No clutches or cones to wear out. Timken bearings/seals for the entire rearend. A new set of Moser 30-spline axles for a nice upgrade over the stock 28’s.
A package like this, from me,would be about $1400.00 with the shipping.

A complete rear, ready to run, with all of those parts mentioned above, would be $1800.00 plus the freight.

Randy’s rears and gears did have NOS gears. I would go with NOS if available. The rear end guy I used seers by Motive Gear. Made in Italy I think.

Yes,the better Motive line is made in Italy. Those are the black/orange box. They have a cheaper line that they sell in the black/blue box. You get what you pay for.

^ Brian did a great job on my rear diff build. If you're looking for a turn-key solution he's your man.

I lucked out on my 4.30, had to go check. Mine are the black and orange and does say made in Italy that I got from quick performance

Quick performance like to push the cheap stuff because price is what attracts the buyers,BUT they have the premium parts too.

Brian, you bring up an interesting point. I was just told that they don't make 30 spline axles for the GM 10 bolt 8.5" BOP. Do you know something different?

I know something different. I have a 1971 8.5 10 bolt. It has Moser 30 spline axles, 30 spline Eaton Posi, and Yukon 3.73 gears. Been together over 12 years now, and about 30 mid 11 second passes.

This is the Posi I have,

When I needed the axles, I called Jim M (Monzaz). He orders them from Moser all the time. He gave me one of his Invoice numbers. I called Moser, referenced the invoice #, and said, "Give me a pair of these"

You can order the 30 spline and still use the factory bearing on the axle. Best to order them through brian or Jim since there is alot of measurement to get right and since it's a custom axle if you measure wrong it's on you.

They are nice insurance but might not really be required at your power level. But if needing a new or upgraded posi already it might make since to step up all at one time
