Yes Brian just learned that last week. Did not no. Did not know that they are self adjusting. Back up couple feet before driving car. And those adjusters will click until it does not grab. Did not know that until last week. I will measure drive shaft after tires are on the ground. Seems to be to long. Seen that coming. I have a guy in the Burgh . Drive line service. He can cut and weld. They have a good reputation
Also my Ol’ timer who assembled my rear end. With all the goodies you sent me Brian . He said to put in the car in reverse for 15 min. Then in Drive for 15 min. Before I take of jack stands. Then he said to drive it like I stole it
Ok I Have a problem “confused” I have everything together. Brian please chim in! Seems that 12 bolt in drive shaft seems “short” to axle yoke. Thought driveshaft would be to long. Do I just need an axle “yoke” that is 1/2 inch longer.
What shaft are you trying to use? Is it the original from the 8.5” 10-bolt rearend? Do you have the rear suspension under load when installing the driveshaft? You should be able to insert the yoke into the transmission until it bottoms-out,then pull it back about 1 1/4” to seat the rear u-joints into the rear yoke.
The 12-bolt Chevy rears that came out of Canadian cars and BOP cars, came with a 3R joint style yoke, with the U-bolts/nuts to secure the u-joint. Those yokes are a little flatter, meaning they don’t reach quite as far forward, compared to the Chevy yokes,or the 8.5” yoke. That would explain why the driveshaft is possibly 1/2” too short. This is what I do: I use a different seal, and install the 8.5” yoke onto a 12-bolt Chevy, shown I’m picture.
Got it . I’m Good it reaches It is 1 1/2 from seal . Another problem the u joint fasteners from the 8.5 is 1/8 inch wider than the Flat 12 bolt yoke.
Do you have a picture of your yoke? I can figure out which fasteners that you need, and send them down.
Do you think I might need a special combination U joint? Or does that one look OK. This is NEW territory for me
That is the BOP/Canadian yoke.I have the u-bolts and nuts for that. The yoke takes a 3R u-joint.Is that what you have?
This u joint seems to be slightly to Big . Send me u bolts and the correct U joint . Brian . Can’t thank you enough! PM me your address. I have it somewhere. No time to dig. And how much $$ I owe you
There is a tool for that that makes it really easy. looks like this, https://www.homedepot.com/p/GearWrench-Bendix-Drum-Brake-Spring-Tool-280/205594555?cm_mmc=Shopping|G|HC|D25T|25-31_GARAGE/AUTOMOTIVE|NA|NA|71700000037147756|58700004141485310|92700034088528837&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlMrD18eX3AIVhq_ICh1NYwtKEAQYAiABEgKfv_D_BwE&dclid=CKmkrNnHl9wCFeu0swodMIYNJA Watch and learn Grasshopper,
