Yeah, Nick. They all have a bunch of other stuff, too, but I wanted to clear up the 49-state vs. California issue. All '72s do have Evaporative Emission Control System, which includes the carbon canister; and the CCS (Controlled Combustion System), which includes the heated air system. For '72 the Evap. System also included the zany fuel-vapor separator ("standpipe") behind the rear seat (except wagons).
    Take care,

Thanks, John. I guess in 70 EEC was Calif only, and 50 state by 72?
By the way, what are you doing still in NO, and on the computer no less!!!
My parents and GTO buddy and his wife (plus 6 cats) evacuated to my house here in Houston.

John, Thanks for looking up the answer to my question about California emissions for the 72s. This explains why the only thing I noticed about our car that was different from a Flint built '72 Stage 1 was that the carb number was different from the 49 state carb. I'm glad ours is still on the car otherwise I would probably have a really hard time finding one with this number since the daily car reports show only 32 Stage 1s built with this option/requirement (they probably built a few service carbs with this number also).

I looked under the front seats with a mirror and flashlight but didn't find the little sheet. It might still be there but I didn't see it.

In the console I found the tags that we found on the bottom side of the carpet when we removed it back in 1989. The tags are different, 1 for the front section and 1 for the rear. I will reproduce these and put a nice new one back under the carpet when the car is restored.

    Preservation of brittle build sheets?

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to preserve a build sheet like Gary found and prevent future damage? In my experience, they are extremely brittle and fall apart easily. I suspect that when Gary simply tries to flatten his in a plastic binder sleeve it may crack and fall apart. Is there some checmical we can spray on these which will rejuvinate them?

    Brian,
I would NOT spray anything on an original buildsheet. It might react with the ink, and then all your info will disappear. The best thing to do is put it in some type of plastic sleeve, and then seal the ends shut. This will keep out the air, which is what kills the sheets.
There are companies out there that sell acid free plastic sheets that will work.

    Brian,
I would also suggest scanning it using a high resolution scanner ASAP; that way, you'll at least have an image of it you can refer to, duplicate, print, etc., whenever you like, without monkeying with the original.
    HTH....
