The Centurion has been missing it's Customline boot cover for over a decade - It originally had one according to the build sheet and having the fasteners on the back seat - I found this one on the AACA web site - it is in mint original condition and a perfect match to the Fire Red paint - an interesting side note, it came from a 73 Centurion with SPO (Special Paint Order) Fire Red - Fire Red was not offered in 73. I kind of feel this was a meant to be deal.
Nice ride! I have a light blue '72 Centurion conv. that I bought as a fixerupper last year from a guy in Wolcutt,Conn. He gave me really good deal on it.Unbelievably,NO RUST! Parked since 1986 showing 54K . A few options-a/c,p.windows,criuse. Just picked up a trimline cover at a local swap couple weeks ago to put on this car. I intend to repaint mine same shade of red . That color looks so right on these cars! It is nice to see that there are people still around that appreciate these big cars.
try this site http://www.buickcenturion.com/ If you havn't seen this site yet, check it out "Smartin" Adam Martin has done a ton of work to give Centurion owners a good home. Be sure to register yours if you havn't already!! Is your car Crystal or Cascade Blue? Crystal Blue is a favorite of mine! The customline covers are getting hard to find and watching ebay they are getting very ugly price wise. 950 Centurions had the Customline boot option in 1972 out of 2,396 built, now for the eye opener it was a whopping $36 - would have been a good thing to go buy a bunch of them back then.
Thanks for the plug, Keith! And the car looks great now!:beer I shipped your trunk stainless today via UPS...it's insured!! Bob just sent me 3 more registrations for the registry, so I will get them done this weekend.....which reminds me, I have to get yours updated! I'll do that now before I forget againou:
I've been looking for one for my LeSabre for years. I believe that all full size GM converts use the same one, so that helps with Cadillac and Ponitac offering them as well. If anyone gets a lead on one in good condition, let me know.
ebay there usually is one on ebay, you have to $$$$ but they are there. There has been some question as to wether Pontiac, Chevy and Olds all offered them - does anyone know for sure
http://www.classiccaddies.com/new_page_2.htm They offer them here for sale, but they're something like $600!!! Ivan Gomez and I inquired about these a couple years ago and got the price quote from hell. But it is an option if you REALLY need one. I've seen a couple NOS ones go for $400 on ebay.
I've seen them go for $400-900 on ebay. I missed one for $200! I'm still kicking myself for that one...but if anyone runs across one sitting in a dusty corner somewhere.....
My '72 is Cascade Blue. I haven't registered this car with Smartin, but I plan to. I guess I got a deal on the trimline cover that I picked up at tha swap for a whole 50.00. Storage bag included ! They really sell for 400-600.? Whew!
yes The highest I saw one go for on ebay, and this was only in the last couple months was just shy of $800 - it was mint with mint attaching pins/retainers and bags - I would say you did OK ou: on your purchase :TU:
Yep...here's an example... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...ry=33652&item=7975198988&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
or this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4546214149&category=34204 this one doesn't even have the hard to find hardware
If they're so pricey, how come there are no reproductions made? It's a fiberglass piece, can't be that hard to "hecho en Mexico", if I ever find a pair I'll use em for a mold and have someone refabricate em.
there was there was a repo done before, they do not have a good reputation - the clips and fitting pin of the originals are probably half the problem of making a repo - plus while there is demand, not sure a repop would pay off for someone. I believe instead of having the interlocking connection that the originals had, they used pins like sliding a table leaf together. here is ta pic of the back of an original.
the other half note the diff in the fitting together part, you have to put one side on first and slide it back into place then the different interlock allows you to get the other side on and still slide it back into place
no This one came off a 73 Centuiron with SPO (special paint order) Fire Red - saw pictures of the one it came off of, Sad Sad end to a once proud car.
