What has to be done to a quadra- jet to use E 85. my 350 is a 10.1 built motor. I do have to put a gallon or so of race fuel to get rid of detonation. Would e 85 be helpful

    Codman, u are dead on.
farmers (of which I was for 22 yrs - farmboy) in those states that grow corn for ethanol production, are expanding and tilling lands that should remain as woods & wet lands.

If corn ethanol is so fantastic, the public should be free to decide. Here in Connecticut -unless it's race gas or avgas- I can't get any ethanol-free gasoline. I cringe everytime I put my '66 Toronado away for the winter with that stuff in the fuel tank, fuel stabilizer or not.

That we are forced to use and fund the stuff with our tax dollars tells me all I need to know about its merits. And as long as politicians buy votes in corn states with our money, it will never go away.

I am able to purchase Shell 91 ethanol free. I pay the extra $$.

We have a Shell station that sells the Ethanol free gasoline, I use it in the open-vented fuel system in the Model T. If you look carefully, there is a small label on the Ethanol-free pump that says "Not a Shell product."

    1972Mach1 Just some M.M.O.G. guy.....

We have a few stations here that sell ethanol-free 91 Octane for about 30-40 cents more/gal than the standard 91 premium. They call it "snowmobile gas" and you're not allowed to run it in your car or truck from November 1 through April 1. It's nozzle is bigger than a newer vehicle's fuel inlet, but it fits just fine in all of my stuff....not that I'd break the law......
I've tested between ethanol and non-ethanol repeatedly, and I will consistently get 2-3 mpg better in my two vehicles that I'd feel remotely comfortable running 10% ethanol in (both my trucks) with the non-ethanol fuel. They both start hard and take longer to get to where they'll run properly on the fuel with ethanol. The F100 will diesel after shutting it off and lean pop for about 10 minutes on 10%....
Basically, I think if it's added as a supplement to gasoline, it's a detriment to the fuel, your vehicle, your mpg, the environment in the long run, and just about all the other evils that get brought up about it that are even remotely believable (I've seen and experienced almost all the issues with ethanol first hand). But, in E-85 and E-98 where you're using it as the main "fuel", why not take advantage of it's high octane where it's readily available if you're building an engine from scratch? I'm going to convert my big engine over as soon as we get E-85 or E-98 here, as I said earlier. Right now it's just not convenient to do so as the nearest station carrying it is 3 hours away. If it's going to be a necessary evil to have ethanol as a fuel, I'm going to take advantage of it.

    Hey Smokey

You asked for a pic..... this is the car I mentioned.

It was a true Rolane & Butera (as in Little John Butera) AA/FD dragster that
has ling been abandoned. We brought it back to life, re-certified the chassis, and put a full body on it.
Ran it as injected alcohol.....as I was in no position to blow up lots of stuff with nitro!
Ran it this way for 10 seasons 1997-2007 in vintage events.

This is me at Indianapolis Raceway Park...winning the GoodGuys event in my class.....
