    Towing it up for exhaust tomorrow and waiting to hear back from my insurance company about the appraisal they sent. Once I can legally drive it belive me it's going to get driven

    Good, I think you will feel alot better once you drive it. Then you can get on with the normal tuning issues:grin: You will never be done, none of us are. Part of owning an old car.

    So, what's the problem? Sounds good to me.

    Looks to be much smoother than the first video, plugs must of got fouled to make it run like that. If they foul again and it starts running like in the first video again you may want to step up a heat range or 2 with the plugs so they don't foul as easy. With exhaust on it will probably run a bit richer so it could happen again just so you're aware.

    Also, a air/fuel meter would be a great tool to get your air fuel ratios right. There is probably a ton of videos on the interwebs on how to setup and tune a Holley carb, the air/fuel meter will be your friend.

    I think Larry has the link to the very affordable air/fuel gauge? Looks like after you get your exhaust on all you have left is a little bit of tweaking and then you can just drive it and enjoy.

    If you get bored of the carb, one of these would be fun to add;

    Have fun

    Oh yeah, have the exhaust shop add a O2 bung for an air/fuel meter while you're there getting exhaust anyway.

    What kind of mufflers are you going with? That is a very important decision. Drone is a very common problem. If you are running a 2 1/2" system, the Walker 17749 long case is hard to beat, and inexpensive.

    That was on one of the detent cable threads lol.

    Engine sounds good as far as I can tell. Keep an eye on those 2 cylinders with the fouled plugs and bump the heat range up as mentioned if they foul again. Exhaust on and drive it like you stole it!

    The car came with 2.5" duals and what look to be some older Flowmaster knockoffs. I cut it when I removed the previous motor with manifolds, then had to cut the driver side again to get the transmission out from underneath. All I'm having them do is get everything back together so I can enjoy the car. I'll be ordering my old stand by system for it within the next couple weeks.

    Every classic car I've had I've gone with the Summit 2.5" kit and they're welded street and strip mufflers, no drone and sound fantastic. My last 72 Skylark had the same setup but with 3" on the 455. For the money/sound I think it's impossible to beat. I ventured away once and tried Flowmaster super 10's my 49 Ford F100 and quickly swapped them out for my old faithful.

    Those are the mufflers, I almost treat them like my own personal secret. Everyone thinks the muffler they run sounds best but I've had Flowmaster, Borla (nice too) MagnaFlow but I still prefer the $30 Summit's. I found them 10+ years ago looking for something cheap to throw on a 71 Camaro I was flipping and used them since. Sometimes price doesn't always dictate quality

    I'll chime in here - while not "unspeakable" things, I've been flat out amazed at Borla's quality and durability. I put a set of their stainless universal mufflers on twenty years ago to compliment a set of custom headers and exhaust I had a company fab in stainless as well. There's virtually no difference in sound and performance, and even appearance after all that time. I made a decision back then to build a system that would handle pretty much anything I threw at it over time, with no intention of ever replacing any of it. So far, so good! Ya get what ya pay for. :)
