I haven't heard about anyone entering a Buick 455 in the engine masters challenge for 2004. I think 9-27 was the deadline and its going on now. What gives??

This year's engine size limit is 410ci.

The AMC guys have a max effort going in this year. A destroked 455 could have made a killer 400 CID machine. 7.5" rods huge bore, and great heads...Anybody have a fat wallet?

A 348 cranked 502 could be wild too......

    De-stroked

I think to make a destroked Buick work you would need a short decked block since I don't feel that rods that long would be beneficial unless you did something crazy with the pin offset and deck height. It would be cool to see someone try it. I would like to see how the bearings do with such a long rod. Its wild to see guys scrap more Hp out of combinations every year.

Rules aren't allowing destroked big blocks this year.

Where the heck are the 350 buick guys??

It's also limited to small blocks only this year. You would have to use a 350 block to compete. Besides the AMC guys, I think the Olds motors are really going to make some noise this year. Some are using the diesel blocks and some are using 403 blocks. That's a killer combo.

cpk 71 im just a number

some body should enter something, just to prove that we are out there with the buick 350 and they can make power!!!!!

I think the 350 is over-square (more stroke than bore) and there's no easy way (or no way at all? :Do No: ) to get a large enough bore to really "fix" it.

I don't know a lot about them "little" motors. :Dou:

Well, from my understanding the 350 doesn't have enough meat to take a substantial overbore and the cam sits too low to allow serious stroker cranks. I'm sure you could get a few extra cubes out of it, but nowhere near 410.
The 500+ hp 350 the PAE built was awesome, but considering how much power the 360 ci engines were making in the Engine masters challenge 2 years ago, the buick unfortuantely wouldn't stand a chance, especially with no aftermarket heads or single plane intake.

Based on what I have heard about the Olds motors, you may see peak HP numbers around 650. And the AMC's are sort of an unknown, so could be up there, too. The Buick 350 won't come close to that. Save your money until another opportunity comes along.

I think Bill Travatto from BTR performance will come out on the top of the olds entrys. His starfire has a 403 in it and has gone 8.03@171 on nitrous.I know this is a pump gas no nitrous contest but he knows how to make power with a olds

Out building REAL engines for REAL cars that will actually be street driven...not full-race ringers that will parade as street engines.

But at least ONE of you guys could have applied. They recieved hundreds upon hundreds of applicants, even a whole bunch for olds motors and not one single buick entry?! :eek2:

Yeah--the Olds' really have quite a few options---regular gas block 350 and 403 motors with large bores and room for more and then you have the diesel 350 blocks with lots of meat in them. Add in the fact that Edelbrock makes a Victor manifold for these motors now and you will see why it would be hard to compete. Patton

Well those are crap for excesses. If Olds can do it, Buick can if people would get off their butts n cast the parts we have been hearing about for what, 2+ years.

I guess it easier to just roll over and accept defeat.

    Thats shameful in my book.

Sorry for my strong words. I do not mean to offend anyone but but.

If those "excuess fly" the next time any of us pull up next to an Olds at the tree.
You might as well just shut it off.

    Hooray for the Underdogs!

    From the AMC BB:

""Stopped by Bill Mitchells this afternoon. By the time I got there, the dust had already settled. Spoke to Ken and he asked if I would post the numbers, so here they are:
    Peak hp 613
    Peak tq 564

    Avg score 959.7
He took the number two spot on dyno #1, being edged by an Olds motor on that dyno.

    IMPRESSIVE to say the least!!!!

Ken Parkman is the AMC builder and did most of it out of his garage after his day-job.

    Awesome AMC!

Thanks for the info on the AMC entry, that's who I'm rootin' for!

After reading through the posts at the AMC forum, I noticed a pic of the AMC engine...and DANG! It looks like a Buick, with the distributor / oil pump up front, etc...

Why did I never notice that before? :Dou:
