    Hi
I am looking to put rims on my car if it ever stops snowing.I was
looking at Edelbrock 454's and was wondering what you thought
and secondly where can you get E.T. rims like the ones posted last month. If anyone has a picture of these rims on their car that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Curtis

    Curtis,
I too was looking at the 454's, I emailed Edelbrock about custom backspacing and never got a reply though, price is pretty steep for an of the shelf wheel, definately a cool look.
Right now I'm leaning toward the new two piece American Racing Torq Thrust D, with the powder coated center, they are available in backspacing from 3 to 6 inches in .25" increments, also looking at the new forged Cragar SS.

    Edelbrock rims

Curt, I also liked the Edelbrock rims...I ordere type 409's from Summit. They came in and looked horrible. There were casting flaws in each of the 4 wheels. Two of the center caps were pretty banged up and the little "Edelbrock" logo's were missing on two of the wheels. Summit was great in dealing with the return, but these rims should have never been sent out like that in the first place. I e-mailed Edelbrock and Ultra Wheel Corp (the manufacturer) and provide pictures.
I ended up with Forged Cragars and frankly I am ecstatic with them. They look great...just mounted tires on them on Friday.

    Cragars

I have gotten tires mounted on them last Friday, 275/60's inthe rear and 235/70's up front. I am waiting to put them on the car until I finished up installing new coils and ball joints.

    454's

I was also looking at putting 454's on mine.

but in 17" size and not chrome.

the Torque thrust II's are getting over done in my opinion.

glad to find out a lil negative about the edelbrock wheels early though. guess i'll be buyin mine from a speed shop instead of summit.

If anyone is interested, I have a set of Cragar forged S/S wheels that I had mounted over the winter, changed my mind and put the buick wheels back on. They are two 15x8 and two 15x7's with 4 1/2 inch back spacing. They are BRAND NEW! I paid over $800 for them. I'll sell them for $600 obo.

    Why me?

Hey GS Dutkowski, where were you with that offer 4 weeks ago when I just bought the same darn things and spent over $800???
That's the story of my life...day late (or early in this case) and short. If anyone is interested in these wheels, jump on them, this is a great price.

BTW - The pictures above are of Forged Cragars...:TU:

And my 15x8's weighed in at 17lbs per wheel...

I actually paid $901 with shipping.
Summit or Jegs wasn't stocking them at the time, so I ordered them right from weld wheels. Only reason I'm selling them is I've grown so used to my GS with Buick wheels I just cant change it now. I actually hate seeing buick wheels on every 225, regal, wagon and GS. I love these wheels because I was looking for the old school cool with the new school high tech. These wheels have it all. I just have no use for them now and want to send them without haggling, thats why the price is so low.

    Ditto

I bought them for the same reason...old school look with a high tech twist...
I hope to mount them on the car in a week or so. I will post pics to this thread when I do.

    Gary,
One question will that backspacing fit a 69 body style. Thanks Curtis

    Curtis,
The 4.5" will work fine, I just measured my car the other day, and the stock wheels are usually 4.375" so there's almost no difference. You won't be able to get a huge tire in the back with that spacing (maybe a 255-60) but certainly much larger than stock.
I'm also leaning heavily toward the forged Cragar but I think I'll be going with 17's in the rear and 16's up front.

    curtis,
I fit 275/60/15 radial ta's on the rear with plenty of room.
    mine is a 72. I dont know about a 69.
I could meet you somewhere in Pa. if you are going to carlisle,
I would be coming from Pittsburgh.

68-69 will not allow as large a tire with backspacing being equal to the later models, 70 and up have a much higher fender radius where as the 68-69 are more flat and don't allow for as much tire section width.

I believe Alan (69GS400s) is running 275's on the back of his 69 ragtop. He has widened stock rims from Stockton, 8 inch with a 5 inch back spacing.

    Look here
    for a description.

I saw his car at Duanes last summer and I must say, seeing all that rubber under there gave me the warm fuzzies. :Brow:

I'm getting ready to order wheels and tires for my 69 and I'm going to do a lot of measuring and see if I can duplicate what he did.
