Yea I need to find a small/med roller before I do any more to mine. I thought I could just go out and find one at a crafts or hardware store but no one had anything. Or it was like $50 or too big.

I covered the back half of my car with it and love the stuff. Well worth the 60 bucks or whatever I payed for the big box of it. I have headers, glasspacks and a non-OD tranny. So you can imagine the road noise on the interstate at 75mph.

I read a lot or reviews and I think that all of the tar, or butyl backed products work equally well at blocking sound but don't have the same ability to stick.

Based on this I used generic stuff I bought off eBay in bulk on the floors and horizontal surfaces. I bought the Second skin product that did better in the heat test for the vertical surfaces.

I have a Centurion convertible so there is a considerable amount of floor to cover. I was able to put down 2 layers of the bulk stuff on the floor and save a bunch. I put 1 layer on the inside of the outer skin and another layer on the inner skin of the doors and rear seat area. I added insulation around the axle hump and used a triple layer on the wheel housing. My intention was to minimize tire noise.

I also purchased some 1/8th inch closed cell foam sheets. All of the peel and stick products work by stopping the panel from vibrating, this makes it harder for the sound to enter the car. They don't do much to absorb noise that's already in the car and they don't work as well on higher frequencies.

The foam sheet makes a good compliment. I placed it over the floor, inside the door and the backside of the interior panels. This also helps prevent squeaks.

Watch out for that aluminum backing, it'll slice through gloves and skin if your attention wavers.

I found a razor cutter worked well for cutting the second skin. A little squirt of wd-40 on the blade from time to time kept the butyl from sticking to the blade.

I found it easy to hold up a panel of sound deadener and use the back of the box cutter to draw a cut line. I could then cut the peice, remove the backing paper and stick it in place. Just be sure you mark every hole. Finding the hole after the stuff is stuck can be a royal pain. You'll also have to be a bit creative in getting consoles and carpets to fit properly if you've added 3 layers like I did.

There are 4 suggestions I'd make to anyone considering doing this.
    1) buy the cheap stuff for the flat surfaces. If you're worried about heat from your exhaust melting it, use better quality stuff as your first layer and the cheap stuff for your second layer.
    2) clean the surfaces, deal with any rust issues and paint the sheetmetal. Any corrosion under this stuff is going to be a mess to repair later. I used POR 15 but there are a wide range of products that will work.
    3) expect it to take more time than you think it should. It's time consuming and hard on the hands.
    4) DO IT! I was worried about trying to dampen noise in convertible but it works. I can roll down the highway at 65-70 and carry on a normal conversation with my wife. Well, at least normal volume levels. It really reduces the fatigue of long rides.

Look for wallpaper tools....a seam roller works okay.
I also picked up a metal smoother, looks like a wide putty knife. It works great as a straightedge to use when cutting the mats.

thanks for the pics of the window with all the descriptions of what the adjusment bolts do. I printed that and will be using it when the windows go in.

Picked up the summit order yesterday, awsome service...But no time for the car, the wifes horse gets priority this weekend? So no new pics for a bit as we are off to Sema this weekend for some fun in the sun... We are already getting snow here so it looks like its going to be a loooong winter.....Gord

    dl7265 No car then Mopar

I like the second skin due to being full butyl, instead of re labled roofing tar. Did you use the Damplifier or the Pro ? Also you used the overkill on top plus the jute and carpet ?

    thanks,
    DL

I would never put the jute padding back in, which is why floors rust mostly. From the inside out.
Its nothing but a sponge that hold moisture, where the carpet will dry out, that jute padding will hold moisture for years.

my wife has the horses, which allows me the horse power, amen brother.... I got my chores done early yesterday and did get some car work done.
So who the heck still owns a VCR?? We live in our own little world here, our town never change our clocks, towns each side of us go back and forth spring and fall. Its damn confusing cause depending what time of the year if we go east or west we loose or gain and hour or are on the same time????
gotta go, pics in a week or so....

Im having no luck finding a roller tool smattymats.com ones are out of stock, ones just like it on Ebay for $30 shipped, only decent priced roller I found were to small or cheap looking. I need one of them large craft stores near by.

Somone is cornering the market on rollers and I bet it has something to do with Evil........... or Terrorism.

Finally got it done, I just barely had enough to finish the doors, I realized to late that i got carried away and by the time i ran out of Dynamat I was sick and tired of doing it. Partly due to my poor attention span, and seems I'm to old to be crawling around inside the car for that long.....

Dynaliner will be going on the floor area over the dynamat extreme, as well as on the roof. :TU:

Lookin' good ! Now I'm gonna throw out all of the Sound destroyer after reading the net. No good!!!!! Glad the car is in pieces right now for paint! One woed of advice, as mentioned the jute padding is a moisture keeper. from what I've read- use Ensolite!!!! Closed cell foam and no worries!!!:beer

    Kewl, looks good.

You know I still can't find a decent roller???

The same ones dynamat sell can be found on eBay for like $2 but they look cheesy to me??? How is yours?

I wanted something with a wide roller 4-6inches.

If I get all I think this xmas 1st of the year Im gonna order one of them
    84sq ft smittymats.com kits.

The wagon has no headliner and sad part is I did just glue the stock padding back up that was under the headliner but it looks nasty. Probably my only big big complaint with GM. Every car I get has a nasty drooping headliner that makes me rip it out so Im not covered in falling dry rotted foam or it blowing in my eye when the window goes down.

The cheapies are wallpaper seam rollers. Find em in any home supply store.

If you want something heavy-duty, look for a carpet seam roller. Maybe Lowes/ HD has them, but I didn't look
    Grainger.com has them for $28.
Type in 'seam roller' in the search bar, and they'll come up.:TU:

Planning to do the same, this weekend, to my 68. How much dyno did it take and how much you use, and what was your total amount spent? Thanks
